Killed the TV today

Pulled the dish right out of the ground.
I noticed that there were only a few shows saved on the Tivo other than the news.
Buying the iTunes or other down loads of those shows is far cheeper than cable.
All the news shows I like are on the net.
Realized I was paying for something I already had.

The tv has gone the way of the land line.

We're close to doing the same. $70 /mth for cable that is rarely watched.

I called them up to kill HBO. "John Adams" is good but all of the rest of their good shows are gone and there is not enough else for me. And I got to thinking, there ain't enough on the whole rest of the dial for me come off the hip either, so I killed the whole thing.

Without starting one of those whitepeople threads--I can't remember the last time I watched television. There's nothing on of interest. I've only kept the bare minimum cable going because every once in a while I have relatives staying who need that TV fix while I'm at work...

I was at my wit's end with commercials a few years ago, and considered getting a TiVo (~$300-400, plus monthly fee) or building my own DVR ($600+) to get rid of them. I did the same as you did, and realized that there really wasn't that much I'd be missing. So instead of spending all of that money, I just pulled the cable out of the back of the TV. I'm not going to get preachy or anything, as what works for one may not work for another, but I'm very happy with my decision, as it's worked out well for me.

All the shows I like haven't had new episodes in months. I hate seasons. I don't have a TV, but I have bittorrent!

My wife is addicted to cable. If it was up to me I'd sell the TV to the neighbor and stick with my internet.

Hmmm.... :imagines what life would be like w/o TV and saving $90 a month:

Nope... not worth it. I love having my premium movies that I don't watch but listen to while I'm spending too much time on bikeforums.net

kudos to those with the willpower to do it though!

We live in France. With Satellite plus, we get nine premimum movie channels. TV stations from over 30 various countries. Mostly news stations. and 100 first tier stations. We pay 39 euros a month. Considering movie rental fees, we have no beef. We love movies. And the movie line up is far better than HBO in the US. Why. HBO in the US, used to cost us over 70 dollars.

I hate tv. I just pray that everyone else loves it, or else I'm gonna have to get a real job one of these days. So please, keep watching tv, or I won't be able to buy bikes no more. Oh yeah, or feed my kids. And pay the mortgage.

I don't pay a dime for my satellite dish network which includes most all pay-per-view channels and special events. All you need is a FTA (free to air) receiver and a dish.

Reminds me of a little song...

---

I am gross and perverted
I'm obsessed 'n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you

I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin' out
From your TV set

You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don't need you
Don't got for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

That's right, folks..
Don't touch that dial

Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livin'room floor

I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go
