I hate the word 'avid'

Why in hell do cyclists use it to describe themselves? It sounds so dorky.

It's "diva" spelled backwards.

I consider myself an avid cyclist. Since I race a couple times a year "recreational" doesn`t fit. I ride MB, Road and fixie and have a lot of fun. I have a fancy bike but most of my bikes are beaters or home brews. So OCD cyclist doesn`t work. I guess "cyclist" would work. But our town drunk is also a cyclist since he can`t drive a car. So I like the term avid cyclist. Avid cyclist seems like a compliment to any cyclist.

I was going to say the same thing

(FWIW, I carry my "crazy" label pretty proudly, but I don't necessarily need to attach it to everything I do )

I'm a cyclist who avidly hates the word 'eclectic'. Everyone says they have 'eclectic' taste in music. Yeah it's nice that a lot of people like a wide range of music, and it's technically correct usage, but people use the word as if it makes them special. And you know how protective and defensive people are about their taste in music. Which is ridiculous of course because I have the best taste in music.
