Hehe. I didn't make enough to get 'zonked' tonight. I'll have to make more tomorrow night.

I drank enough to get a little buzz but I didn't enjoy the mud taste. I don't think I'll be trying it again. Beer tastes so much better.

I didn't think the taste was too bad (peppery water), but maybe I didn't make it strong enough.

Beer definitely tastes better though, and is cheaper. I just wanted to try something new.

It's a drink made from the root of Piper methysticum, a plant native to the South/West Pacific.

Here's the site I bought it from. There are a few others if you search, but this place had the best selection/prices that I could find. It's pretty expensive to order on the internet since it has to be imported from the South Pacific. Someday I'll visit Vanuatu and drink with the locals.

Yeah, not cheap. But a pound should last for a while. I only used 2 tablespoons per cup for mine.

I think you have the power of foresight. I plan to do a belly dance show tomorrow night that will indeed, include kittens!

Yeah a pound of kava should last a good long while. $22 isn't bad.

Ok, so its not really kittens. Its cats. And its only one cat. And its not really a show, but just a lot of dancing in my room. Pretty close, though!

Lucky cat.

Well, I think I'm heading to bed. Sweet dreams, everyone.

I think this is too much of an adult conversation for me to be looking at further .

Enjoy!

Nope, never even heard of it before. South Seas ersatz "coffee", huh? Think I'll pass.

When I saw the title for this thread, I thought it was about coffee. Years ago, there was a coffee brand called Kava. The tag line at the end of their TV & radio commercials(said by some guy with a very deep, gravelly voice) was: "Have a cuppa Kava. Whatta cuppa coffee!" Haven't seen or heard of it in ages, but had it on good authority that it was just another canned coffee, & a fairly poor one at that.

I had some at a friends party once or twice. The peppery muddy taste is an aquired taste but the effects are fun.

Have your lips gone tingly and numb yet. And it is a good way to relax at the end of the day.

Note to self: must add kava to my fortnightly grocery list.
