Anti-Emo Riots Break Out Across Mexico

    http://velospace.org/node/5540

The bicycle is the most civilized conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart. ~Iris Murdoch, The Red and the Green

So I thought the emo thing died out in '07... not the actual music genre that was big in the 90's, the fashion kids.

    Mexicans are serious business.

At least they know why they are getting beat up. I got jumped in Queretaro for absolutely no reason at all.

As stoked as I am on random violence, I dislike the anti-homosexual aspect of this story.

First you imply that you would rather get beat up for a reason, then you say you like random violence, then you say you don't like the reason why they were beat up.

I prefer targeted violence, so I'll know how to avoid being a target.

It's weird seeing "emo" kids with medium skin tone. I always imagined emo as pasty-white American kids. I mean, can you imagine a Mexican goth kid? Oh, sorry I asked...

Ha, the end of the article was exactly correct:

But Arellano said he thought the riots could have a positive impact here in the US.

"It's a great clusterfu*k for the American mind's idea of Mexico," Arellano said. "This teaches the rest of the world that Mexico is not just a bunch of cactuses and sombreros."

I love that other countries youth are so miseducated that they feel they need to do something like this to prove to America that there's more than cactus' and sombrero's there?

    Yay for anti-emo.

Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

I'm confused... so it was just a bunch of random violence so then they decided to get together and protest only to get the crap kicked out of them?

Less wining = less people beating you up.

Hahahahah... the fat "metal head" or "rockabilly" kid they were interviewing during the whole thing said, "We're here to fight against the emos." The reporter then asks, "Why the violence?" To which he replied, "Because they're copying our style!"

    Hahahhahahahahhhhhaaaaaa.

*********ing EMO's screwing up everything that's cool about goth.

Its so rare to see the older well-dressed Victorian goths these days, people who actually have a pleasing appearance rather than dressed up as yet another club rat exceeding their eyeliner limit.
Marilyn Manson isn't really "Goth" industrial metal perhaps but not Goth. Goth is much more Bauhaus, London After Midnight, and Crüxshadows than Skinny Puppy, Ministry (post "Everyday is Halloween.") , and Wumpscut. All great music and all played at Goth clubs, but there is a distinction, kind of like R&B and Soul. They get lumped together, but are separate things.

I concur with your observation, though. The "Baby Bats" as I like to call them just don't have the level of style the old schoolers had / have. The ones that stay tend to graduate from the tank tops and bondage pants they wore at last month's rave though, especially after someone ganks their glowsticks.

To tell the truth all of the stereotypes that people lump on Goths (over dramatic depressed loners with cutting scars) really apply more to Emo's.

I love the Crüxshadows. Most of the "Emo" music I don't care for. Crüxshadows is mostly darkwave, which is basically Goth music mixed with Industrial.

Granted, but for the sake of simplification I put it the way I did. I've actually hung out with Rogue, nice guy.

Well...at least they've found something worthwhile to protest about...or something.
