If everyone were to turn thier lights off for 10 minutes.

FIRST LET ME START BY SAYING, PLEASE READ THE BELOW. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME, AND EVERYONE IN GENERAL. JUST TAKE A FEW SECONDS OF YOUR TIME. THANKS

Idk if anyone heard about the whole thing of people trying to get everyone to turn their lights off at the exact same time. My buddy told me about it and to do it at 8 so I did. Never really read up on it or anything but he said they were gonna take a picture from satellite and try to get as many lights off as possible. Why can't the government take some of their war money, and put a nationwide commercial on like in between the presidents speeches or something saying like every first Monday of the month, everyone turn everything plugged into a wall and all the lights off, for 30 minutes.

It doesn't seem like a hard task AT all in my opinion to do this. For a lot of families, they could play cards with a candle lite or something idk, in my opinion, if I were 3-16 and my parents told me we were gonna sit down and play cards, while saving the earth, I'd think it was the coolest thing ever.

Just think about it. I know that not EVERYONE would do it, and in some cases, things need to be left on. But for the most part, even if you just CANNNNNNN'T turn your computer off and you HADDDDD to be on bikeforums, at least turn the light on over your head for 30 minutes. Its so simple. If everyone were to shut off everything for like 30 minutes. Just once. I bet we would save billions and billions of dollars, helping to boost our economy. And if everyone were to do it, we would be saving the environment greatly.

I'm going to assume that a lot of people on here are going to object this, but thats your opinion. It is a proven fact that the younger you are, the more open minded you are about it. So I ask everyone, do you think anyone could help me in attempting to make a big deal of this? Spread the word folks, even if you don't care about the earth because you'll be gone before its consequences, your kids, your relatives, your other younger family members, will all have to pay.

Thanks guys, let me know what you think

I can do it. Just say when. And if you want to go for more than ten, that would be cool!

Thanks Siu. What does everyone think the best date and time would be to do it? And what about all the alternatives like, different time zones and what not. Have everyone do it in their time zone? Like wait till 8 and do it? Thoughts please

I think that, instead of resorting to gimmicks that may severely damage the power grid, or blaming others, we should consume less.

Thanks taerom and eljamoquio for your input. But jamoquio, if you want everyone to consume less... tell me what you plan on doing to get everyone to do this. Thanks

What I'm saying is, an extra 10 minutes. Like continue on with everything normal, but if the certain time rolls around, you have to stop and turn it off. Certain things are off when your sleeping per say, but 10 minutes of when you should be using them, would make a huge difference if everyone did stop for the 10 minutes.

I read about a 1-hour blackout that residents of Sydney, Aus participated in last year as
an electricity saving event to raise awareness. Half the residents participated and the
city's electricity use only reduced by 2%. It may be satisfying to be part of this kind of thing
but residential use really isn't wasting that much in the grand scheme of things.

I think turning off the lights would be good for the environment.
But as far as our wacked economy goes spending not conserving
is the stimulus that makes it "healthy" within the calculus of
market economics.

'Earth Hour' has been a rich source of irony for me, and I like a lot of irony in my diet.

Irony makes me ill. Or is that iron?

Anyhow, does it have to be in your house? I will drive down the freeway with my car lights off for 10 min.

Seriously, my lights are off most of the day except when I work from home. I can't work on a laptop in a dark room without killing my eyes.

If I turn my lights off for ten minutes I will probably ride over a bottle, or hit a pothole. There never seems to be any pot in the holes?

UH>>>> !!! If everyone does it at different times the saving is the same amount, just not all at once. It makes no difference when you do it.

I think you're missing the point.

He wants to do it to show that a massive amount of energy can be saved in a short period of time, during prime time electricity guzzlage if everyone comes together and turns off all electrical things for a half an our, all at one time and day.

I like the idea.

People should try and realize that a few million people around the world that actually do follow earth hours suggestion, means diddly squat in the grand scheme of things...

I'm gonna do the opposite

I'll do the opposite and power up all my computers, go from Balanced power mode to Super Performance mode, set them all up to continuously defrag and set up 3D screen savers. I turn on my car engines and put a brick on the accelerator pedal and let it rev away. Then I'll leave all the lights on, put the freezer on super cold, open the windows and turn up the heating to MAX. And I might even continually flush the WC.

OR WE CAN DO SOMETHING THAT WILL REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND STOP WITH AIR TRAVEL.
