Dang it, I was an April 1 victim

This is embarrassing, but I'll admit it. A friend sent me an e-mail today that suggested that I might get to attend the Beijing Olympics all expenses paid. I wrote back immediately to express my interest. It would take too long to explain, but the funny thing is that a couple of weeks ago a completely coincidental event made the premise almost believable. Of course it wasn't quite believable but when you think something good might happen you can lose your mind for a moment, even if you think you are a good skeptic.

I believed it for a full six minutes, and actually mentioned it to someone I was IMing at the time, before I wised up and wrote back saying ha ha ya got me.

    Anyone else wanna fess up?

Quite a wierd one... a guy phoned my girlfreind at work and said that her boss was (verbally) sexually harrassing his girlfrined. He went into explicit detail regarding the exact nature of the abuse, and then continued to explain how this had effected their sex life (again, in quite graphic detail). She was basically reduced to saying 'uh-huh' repeatedly, as this guy never gave her a chance to talk. He said he would call back after she had spoke to her manager about lodging a complaint. She didn't bite of course.

Now, this was quite early in the morning, so the guy must have planned it the night before, and I assume he must have called other places too.. so I am thinking that this bloke must be a bit wierd. It's not funny in any way I can think of, and it's mostly just pathetic. And not really pulling a joke on anyone either, unless my gf had actually gone to her boss with these warnings... but then if he had been molesting someone, and became very defensive, then she could have been dragged into something.

I dunno, I'm just ranting here, so please ignore. Just wanted to vent a bit about it. Stupid guy

Finally, I had a somewhat amusing prank that worked. I have a little daughter with short hair and no earrings. Babies are androgynous. Anyway, I dressed her up in some new little blue fire truck jammies and took her out shopping.

People came up to see the baby like they always do, and they told me what a big, strong boy she was (no comment from me), how "he" was going to grow up and be a tough firefighter (no comment again), asked how old he was...and when they finally asked his name, I'd smile and say "Elizabeth."

Yay for awkward pauses and confusing little old ladies!

I spread the rumor that I was going to quit. Of course the boss was off today. One co worker got all up in a tizzy and said to me "Don't you let him hear you say that! He's gonna be pissed!! You better not tell him that!! He'll be so mad, he'll send you away!!"

    I pulled double duty.

I simply relabeled the hotkeys on my boss' keyboard with things like "Erase Drive h:" or "Hamsterdance.com" and "Flashy lights." I was actually surprised that he noticed it right away when he got in this morning. I did the same thing to my keyboard, however, so he was pretty sure initially that it wasn't me.

Then at lunch time a coworker and I got busy setting an alarm on another coworker's storage cabinet. It consisted of two flashing orange strobes and a warning buzzer tied to the door. Because we wanted to make sure he noticed it and because we didn't want it to be a complete surprise as he is an older guy, we put "restricted area" and "authorized personnel only" signs on the cabinet to get his attention.

Unfortunately, he only took a 15 minute lunch so he could run some errands. He came back just as we were finishing up...caught red-handed. He still got a really good laugh out of it though.

Nice, that had to be a lot of fun, what did your baby boy err girl think of it?

That is a great topic, keep the stories coming how much fun can you have next year?
When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart. ~Diane Ackerman

She was too busy trying to stick forbidden objects (low-hanging clothes, unsuspecting passers-by, mom's wallet) in her mouth to pay much attention.
