Speaking of old school, look at the suit. Just kidding, what brought that on? Seriously Tom, you remind me of an Amish guy going to be a pallbearer. But hey, the pic is of low quality here where I see it. It could be a hip ass Kilton for all I know.

TNG all the way. Great cast and mostly (at least from the third season on) well written and produced.

TOS had a great core cast, but suffered badly from poor set design, costume and, often, weak scripts.

DS9, well, I haven't actually watched it all yet, but the few episodes I've seen felt like TNG goes Disney...

VOY was a TNG clone with a slightly less stellar cast and stupid plot holes.

ENT had a few great episodes in the first two seasons, but didn't really take off until the Xindi business. Who knows what it could've become if it had been allowed to run its course...? Shran was my absolute favourite of them all.

got to go with the original because it pioneered the whole thing.
If it wasn't done, there wouldn't be the others. And yeah, it was low budget and not the best writing, but it was done well enough to start the whole series of series.

We all have our favorite parts. I'm partial to hips, but if you were, would it be the same without elbows?

Deep Space Nine. I love ships blowing up in a huge galactic melee! I want more action and less deep insights. No chick flick type of stuff. Shoot em up and blow things up!

This is why I never went to a Trek convention. The original series is what it is.
The contract required it to be cowboys in space. Shatner's overacting worked
well on a small screen. I saw him live in a play back then. He stunk.

TNG was a miracle to a sci fi nut like moi... Roddenbury had more freedom, the special effects were better, and things like audience feedback helped shape the show. It was the logical thing to do.

The rest is a matter of taste. I like them all, but not every bit.

For example, I was into Enterprise up until the Xindi. Puhhlease, this is not how it's done. But the weakness that killed the show, IMUHBICO (unbelievably humble but incredibly correct opinion) was picking someone for captain who was not a superb actor.

Right now, I am watching Voyager. They could have picked a better captain, but
the series brought some much needed creative flexibliity.

I need a new Star Trek series.

This poll is dumb. This thread is dumb. There is only one Star Trek.

You guys got to be kidding. Star Trek was campy, it was preachy, it was ironic (preaching equality between races, but women wore mini-skirts and were usually damsels in distress, plus Uhura always asked dumb questions). The chemistry among the cast was amazing. Star Trek was unintentionally brilliant. The re-runs will live far beyond any of those other shows, because it was perfect.

Note that Star Wars also had wooden acting, campy humor, and an in-your-face dramatic theme of good (in white) vs. evil (in black). People knock the Star Wars movies for weak scripts and acting, yet it became the biggest movie franchise ever.

You can try to analyze bits and pieces of a work, but it's the whole package that makes it work (or not).

I am a fan of the original, enjoyed TNG, but really liked DS9 as it had a much darker edge and Sisco rocked... he could beat up all the other captains without breaking a sweat and hell... he was a god too.

And let's not forget Jadzia Dax.

^^^^ Exactly !

This rant might be more appropriate for another thread, but visuals displaced writing long ago.
The depth of writing on the original is so far above the other ones
they shouldnt even be able to have the same name.

2. Q
3. Michele Forbes. (even though she didnt come along until much later)

Well as I have all the episodes of both the original and TNG.

I would have to say hard choice.

I liked both equally.

I even was fortunate enough to meet James Doohan several years ago.

So I voted for the wagon train to the stars "To quote Gene Roddenberry"

+1. There was no better captain than Avery Brooks although they could have done without Siddig El (Alexander) Fadil (Bashir) until the genetic alterations arc.
