Is Vista SP1 available or not?

What's the deal with that... is it available or not?

Regular user download or MSDN subscriber download only? Where's the link? I'm in MSDN sub downloads and it's like MS are making it totally difficult to find it.

I'm getting really sick of Vista. I dont know if it's truly that bad or if I just want to make out as if it's that bad, in any case, it's really p***ing me off.

EDIT: I downloaded SP1 and will install it this evening. I was hoping to get just he English version but I could only find a 5-language pack.

I'm not sure why it's not windows update yet but you can download it from microsoft too.

There are a ton of patches on the MS website. Go forth and patch.

It is on Windows update, there is just a bunch of conditional crap before it shows as available. Make sure all of the other updates are installed, then check to see if any failed. If one did, start hitting google for the fix.

I had to run a simple command on one machine and it showed up on the next reboot. I can't remember the link off hand.

I downloaded SP1 from MS's website and ran it. It runs in multiple phases with multiple reboots, but it does seem to work quite well.

So does this mean beta testing on Vista is now complete?

Yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking. I always said Vista was a beta product. In fact all MS softawre is beta as a v1.0 or pre-sp1. Taking a long hard look, I guess the same applies to software from other companies. Even OSX had bugs in 10.5.0 (that's why we're already at 10.5.2) - but I'm not familiar with what those bugs are or to what extent they affected users.

I still haven't seen a single reason to install Vista, and plenty of reasons not to.
Then again, I don't really see any reason to switch away from Windows 2000 either.

Personally, I could still live with Windows 3.1, it did everything I needed.

Vista SP1 may not become available to you via Windows Update until after ALL updates available are installed, including some device driver updates listed as 'optional'. Some manufacturer provided device drivers in use are problemmatic when SP1 is deployed, thus the restriction. These include some audio device driver revisions from companies such as RealTek and Creative, and thus the restriction impacts on a LOT of machines!

The comments about Vista being 'Beta' are just plain silly. People who have been diligent in intalling available updates already have the bulk of the service pack anyway. Vista has been fine for everday use for a long time, and the problems being experienced by folk experiencing problems are, in very large part, problems of their own making.

Except multitask. Not many of us could live with the non-multitasking thing. And I don't think it could use more than about 8 megs of RAM. Even 9x could only use 64 I think.

Plus, do you remember the (lack of) quality of 16-bit applications? That's all that 3.1 supported, and I don't know if you can even find any 16 bit apps these days.

Have fun trying to browse the web with Netscape 1.x or Mosaic. I tried it a while back and there are hardly any web sites that will render in any recognizable way.
