I have seen my first robin and the geese are flying north, there's some fresh snow on the ground and if you listen carefully... you can hear the sounds of Leafs falling.
I am taken back to those Saturday nights of my youth when my brother and I would sit on the edge of our seats and watch our beloved Canadiens lay waste to any that dared oppose them.. he has defected but my loyalty has never changed.
It was the classic match-up between my beloved Habs and those despised Leafs and as is proper, the Habs wrapped up their season by laying yet another beating on the Leafs who were already looking forward to playing some golf.
Higgins scored the second goal and in watching him I was reminded of another Hab who always made it his habit to come flying down the wing and bury the puck deep in the twine.
Price was and is astonishing in net, should be the rookie of the year, and could follow in the footsteps of other rookie goalkeepers to take the Habs to winning number 25.
Kovalev is a man on a mission and Koivu will return for the playoffs... he is the team's real heart and soul and without him , they have stepped things up a few notches.
Jean Beliveau was in attendance and as the man who's name has appeared on the Grail more times than anyone (17 times as a player and manager) he must be pleased at the team he saw on the ice tonight that has been on a mission since Christmas.
They aren't crawling in under the wire and depending on how things go tomorrow, they could finish as the number one team in the East and the drive for 25 is well under way.
I can picture a Montreal - Detroit Final and should that happen, I can only hope to see the Dead Things put in their place so I can see Montreal raise what would be their 25th Stanley Cup and the 12th they have won in my lifetime.
A favourite moment was when I saw a shot of two guys in the audience wearing a Montreal jersey and a Toronto jersey, and odd pairing. On the back of the Toronto Jersey it had a "67" and above that where the name should be it said "Losers Since".
I'll extend my sympathies to Boston fans now as it looks as if they shall be the first to fall...
Let the quest for the Grail begin.
