isn't that the intercooler, not the air intake?

so there was no sucking involved but rather just a lodging?

Yeah, the scoop on a WRX is designed to pound air onto the intercooler and turbo, I'm just lucky it went in where it did.

And yeah, it sucked. It looked like it pulled the bird from slightly above the scoop inwards.

where else would it have gone in? i think it would have just glanced off your windshield or hood otherwise

Lucky it landed on the intercooler and not on the space designated for the turbo, there were lots of feathers which were a bit of a concern.

This is why the Legacy has a mesh grill over the hood scoop.

yea, what's the purpose of an ic located in the engine bay where ambient engine heat will heat the whole mess up & heat the "cooled" air?

    fmic or stfu

<has very ****ty roads where he lives, has lowered car, not getting a FMIC anytime soon>

    Car was fine.

I already hate having over $4000 of rim on the ground.

That doesn't make a big lot of sense. Front mount intercoolers do not belong on Subaru, aside from that I'm pretty sure the Subaru team mechanics know a little bit more about engine mechanics than you do.

burning large quantities of gasoline for the purpose of joyriding is rather uncalled for as well.

The point of the top mounted intercooler is to avoid road damage, like from bird strikes and stuff. By mounting a fmic, there is an immediate horsepower gain. Cooler air always = more power.

I doubt the engineers envisioned a scenario like this!

Yes but it does not provide enough power to justify such fragility for a rally car or even a street car. Even landing a jump too hard can break a FMIC.

Interesting that Subaru can't design something that's stout. It seems like everyone else is able to make a fmic that isn't "fragile."

I run 94 in it as well, you hippies aren't allowed to complain when I have to pay that much to play for such a short amount of time.

When I used to race my MR2 I have seen sooo much of this. Because the scoops on the back rear towards the ground on an MR2 I have even seen a picture of a rabbit getting stuck from underneath and burning away basically. You can get an FMIC for the imprezza but it is designed for tmic.

I occasionally get a bird sucked up when I'm doing 160 kmph...

    Although I'm on my bicycle...

I consider it a ride snack.
