    Peanuts

So I go out to dinner the other night with my girlfriend and 2 other people that we bowl with every Tuesday night and as we are waiting for our food that we ordered, the bartender asks us if we would like some peanuts while we wait. Everyone likes peanuts so we say yes. The bartender brings us over two bowls, one with the uneaten peanuts and the other with empty peanut shells. Everyone except me reaches in and grabs one and opens it up. I then reach in, grab one and pop the whole thing in my mouth. All three of them turn and give me the most god awful stare as if I had just committed an unforgivable curse. I felt rather stupid as they proceeded to ask me why I was eating the peanut and the shell. I told them it's how I had always eaten them because I like the saltiness of the shell and found eating just the peanuts inside to be rather boring. This all seemed so foreign to them.

Is this really not a common practice? Does anyone else also eat the shells?

Well Joe, if you think being like me will give you the appearance of normalcy, I will tell you I prefer peanuts with the shell. Without is just too rich - and of course, the salt is wonderful!

I have never seen or heard of anyone doing that.

But, then again I eat shrimp with their shell on them. Kind of cool with the crunch and all and much more flavor. No head though. That would really be disgusting.

I also like the saltiness of the shell, so I, you know, lick the shell...

Probably not as much fiber that way, but much less chewing.

Pardon me if passing a brillo pad is not my idea of fun...even if it cures the hiccups in the process.

I have eaten the peanuts in the shell before, and the same applies to sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Not on a regular basis, but I have done it.

    As have I.

Had a bag full today, well, styrofoam cup full and a bag for the shells.
    Loves me some "bol peanuts".
Best ones are cooked in a cast iron pot, in sea water. It's ok to add Zataran's crab boil, but it can be too much quickly.

I eat the shells of peanuts, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds. When I quit cigarettes, eating sunflower seeds kept me from wanting a smoke. After 2 days of munching the seeds w/shell, I was bound up tight. It was like trying to pass glass.

A word of advice to those that enjoy eating the shell-
Don't eat 4 bags of seeds in a 2-day period. You might not enjoy the results.

I've never heard of anyone doing that, but as long as you like it then I don't see a problem. Personally, I don't think my teeth could handle that for long.
