For $300? Easy... to... resist...

These are my cycling glasses. DeWalt safety glasses, $8 at Orchard Supply Hardware:

Excellent visibility and protection; from a couple of feet you don't notice the cheap frame, you don't worry about crushing or losing it.

I love them, they look great on me, but you should see what they cost in Australia ...

... although even when I was in SF in January, I only bought a pair of Oil Drums. I spent too much at Amoeba Records. *sigh*

I've got to say, the Oakleys don't really give you thermonuclear protection.

I love my Juliets. I have had them going on almost 3 years. The best part is that I got them for FREE because someone was drunk and left them at the bar I work at and never came back for them. When I first found out how much they were I thought that they were way overpriced, but now after the abuse that they have taken from me, I would actually consider buying them. Great sunglasses. I have only had to replace the lenses once so far due to scratches.

Yeah I figure. Even at 50% margins, they gotta cost a pretty penny.

These are one of the only pairs of cycling glasses that fit me correctly. They're still too much for me.

I need to get contacts so I can wear sh*t like that. My regular glasses are bad for riding. Fortunately we're approaching the season of midnight sun, give or take, so I can wear prescription shades am/pm.

Back in the late 80'sm, early 90's I worked a boat rental and a boat dealership that were owned by teh same family. One of my fellow employees was the son of a RayBan rep. She would order us glasses at cost. One of your customers was an Oakley rep. He would sell us glasses at cost as well.

I used to have an incredible collection of Oakleys and Ray Bans. Sadly, they are all lost or broken now.

Hobartlemagne, I say we test the Oakley thing. You put some on and I will set off a low yield warhead at Clark Field.

I had several colors of WayFarers and Cats, including red and blue. I may well have had pink ones too! My scariest Oakleys were the HUGE pre blade, goggely looking ones with the colored frames. I had a pair of them in red.

Uffa - these aren't even on the same planet as Oakley. There IS a difference. In bright sunlight (ie when you'll actually be using them) the cheap stuff looks "hazy". It's just a really low drop in contrast that get better when you shade the lenses with your hand. The optics on these cheap glasses are just horrible.

I've drooled over the Juliettes for a loooong time. Just can't get myself to pull the trigger either because of the price tag. I have a pair of half jackets though. I also use Tifosi's. Tifosi's can be had for $30 off of ebay and their optics are great.

see my earlier post.

Retail they're $60 but you can usually score some off of ebay for half that.
