    What wine is more red?

. . . really stains the cork. Is it simply a Zin or can it be, e.g., a Cab Sav that is simply really old? Of course, there may be arguments about what is "red" or really red or if cerise or maybe purple is the color that I should be curious about but ... all I mean is ... what really stains the cork?

Alicante Bouchet is the reddest wine and one of the least drinkable. Most young red wines can have an almost purplish/red color. Again they are barely drinkable at that stage.

I believe the common use for that varietal is as a tincture (coloring agent) and to increase the tannin level of some softer varietals.

True enough Modo- but this is Sonoma County, several local wineries sell the pure stuff. if you want something rare try Troussau Gris. For absurdly, fantastically rare one, and only one, place sells Furmint.
