Tornado warning and baby birds - what to do

My wife and I have been watching a mother and father Carolina Wren build a nest in these baskets we had outside and forgot about. Eggs were laid. Eggs were hatched. Now the nest has 3 to 4 baby wrens in it. We love watching the mother and father go in and out feeding the babies.

But now a severe storm is heading this way with tornado warnings. The birds nested between these two baskets - one sitting on the next.

Should I protect them or let nature have its way? What would you do?

If you disturb the nest, the chicks will die anyway.

animals, except squirrels, are usually smarter and have more instinct when it comes to natural disasters. I think they'll move before it hits.

I know. But I love these little guys. They're about as big as half your pinkie.

Sshhh - we've peeked in and looked at them the other day. Don't tell the mom. It was just a quick peek. Sorry, Tom. But the mom and dad haven't stopped feeding them. In and out. In and out. It's non stop until dark. I'm watching them now.

Yeah, cute little boogers, aren't they?

We have a squirrel here that's almost tame. She'll take nuts right out of my fingers. Last year, she brought the kids by once they were mobile enough. This year, we have a half dozen semitame squirrels.

Not necessarily the case. I had wrens build a nest on a shelf in my garage, I didn't bother them, they didn't bother me. Until the shelf had to be removed to put in a door. So I moved the nest to a different shelf in the garage, about 8 fee away. The bird found it, the eggs hatched, the wife and daughter where happy. All's well that ends well.

I guess if I could - I would protect them - how would you go about doing it?
