Pocahontas... It only looks legal...

Grave of the fireflies... but most kids wouldn't fully understand it until they decide to watch it later in life.

A series of unfortunate events. I had to clean my system with Red Dawn after I saw it.

We had to read it in school in Grade 5. I couldn't believe they would do that to us. What happened to all the la-di-da happy ending books???

Mmm I remember reading Bridge to Terabithia in grade school. When I saw the advertisements for the movie I was totally surprised because I remembered what happened at the end. I think they really deceived people and made it kinda look like another fantasy movie for kids. I mean I personally knew what was going to happen having read the book but I feel so bad for unsuspecting parents. I mean I liked the movie I just thought the advertising was super misleading.

I was reading reviews for it and the people who read the book liked it. But the parents who didn't were all super upset. One lady was saying how she came from a christian family and after seeing it her little girl told her that she wasn't sure if she believed in god anymore.

To this day I won't watch Old Yeller. Arghhh..

I just read the book "I Am Legend". I sure won't see the movie if it ends the same way, what a crock.

Not really a kids movie, but about kids.

Even more depressing - "The Biscuit Eater". A Disney movie, no less.... I was a child when I saw it, and was horrified at the ending.

Good. Challenge kids to think for themselves. It'll make their faith that much stronger, either way they decide.

I think that "misleading advertising" was brilliant. It really falls in line with what life does.

How about The Outsiders? It was supposed to be about these tough kids, but they were telling each other about their emotions all the time. It was painfully obvious that a woman with little understanding of young and tough males wrote it. Both the book and movie sucked.

Teenage suicide: Surviving (1985) starring Molly Ringwald. (Yes, I can admit it I was a Molly Ringwald fan.)

i remember that movie...it was made for tv but it was better than average. It was very sad and i remember molly ringwald was very good in it.

I agree about 'the outsiders'...it was on tv recently and i remember how disappointing it was. Really mediocre, although some of the performances were good...matt dillon was perfect as dallas, but i agree,it really was not very good. All that sappy music, it was overwrought...probably more aimed at teenage girls who wanted to moon over cute guys.

I agree with the OP as well. I was one of those drawn in by the commercials for Bridge to Terabethia and kind of had a wtf at the ending. Luckily my kids were old enough that it didn’t upset them too much and it did provide a lot of good discussion afterwards.
