Hilton Head Island, SC

In late July I'll be visiting Hilton Head Island and need to know if there are any trails worth riding there. All the shops that rent bikes there, only rent beach cruisers.

Has anyone been there lately? I was in HH in 1994 for my brother's wedding, but didn't have much time to see the Island.

I'm going next month, too --- there are plenty of MUPs that go all over the island, really easy to get around on a bike. I don't know about rentals, as I usually just take mine with me.

flat, easy riding. As stated before, there are plenty of MUPs to ride on.

Beach cruisers are the common rental. If you can find a real LBS you may be able to rent something other than a cruiser, although Hilton Head is what beach cruisers are made for.

Lots of bike paths there. I was there last week. Road riding might be tough. A BF member owns a bike shop there, as I discovered on a chance visit to his store. HH had the worst traffic of all the places I visited. I loved Isle of Palms and Folly Island. Beach cruisers are well suited to the bike paths, hence that is what they rent. I did see some roadies in full kit out, but many of the roads are narrow and congested and have no shoulders or curbs, so riding could be a bit sketchy.

Thanks for all the info. It's probably best that I take a few days off the bike, or just explore a bit on a cruiser one morning.

The whole reason I'm going is to see my Brother and his family(a wife and 7 children). I met his wife at their wedding in 94, but they've been living in the Middle East + London ever since(he's a Missionary). The kids have me on the same list as Santa + the Tooth Fairy(charactors they've received gifts from, but never met).

Sea Turtle Bike Rental would be my choice if just looking for a beach cruiser on Hilton Head.
