Gee lots of great responses, I don't even get that with my bikes here My van is supposed to be a Japan only model. I bought the L400 Delica through an import agent direct from Japan which is a common thing to do, it's also done in the UK and Canada so you guys might be able to dip over the border to get one. There's also online clubs in these country's where we all share info on them.
2010 Custom Carbon JBC, 1990 Ricardo Pinnacle, 1988 Ricardo Elite, 1983 Ricardo Varsity, 1990 Peugeot Hurricane, 1977 Dawes Galaxy GT, 2007 Pinarello F3-13, Custom aussie made 1980 Columbus SL racer, 1975 Calton Rapide, 1995 Olympia Fusari, 1993 Basso Viper.

As I understand it, it's much easier to get JDM models imported to the UK, Canada, and Australia, but is very nearly impossible to do so legally in the United States. People have had their grey market JDM Skylines, Silvias, and whatnot confiscated and crushed into cubes here. Hell, when Bill Effing Gates illegally imported a Porsche 959 in the eighties, it was held by US Customs for thirteen years until laws were changed to allow special cars to be imported for show purposes.

A car needs to have both DOT and EPA approval, which means it must be thoroughly emissions and crash tested. I think there's an exemption for cars over a certain age, but I'm not sure what the cutoff is, if it even exists.

Ah ha, according to this site:
Under 49 U.S.C. 30112(a), a person may not permanently import into the United States a motor vehicle manufactured after the date that an applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) takes effect unless the vehicle complies with the standard and is so certified by its original manufacturer. This prohibition applies to both new and used motor vehicles, but does not apply to motor vehicles that are at least 25 years old.
That means... 1987 and earlier, maybe. So hey, who wants some mini-muscle-cars?!

    1977 Mazda RX3!

    1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R!

    1980 Nissan Skyline GT-EX!

    1979 Mitsubishi Lancer!

    1979 Isuzu Gemini!

1981 Isuzu Grand National Gemini ZZ-T!

    1971 Isuzu Bellett GT!

    1975 Toyota Celica!

    I'll be in my bunk.

I remember when I went to Japan on an exchange program in 1991. The Beat and AZ-1 and Nissan Figaro were all over the magazines at the time.

Not to my recollection, but my host father had a Toyota Chaser and his parents had a Daihatsu Mira. I remember seeing the Honda Today and City all over... and something called a We've, but I can't remember the manufacturer.

I'm terribly sorry, but that "Veritas BMW" looks awful. I like the Homer better -- at least it's got some functionality built in.

I agree. In all fairness I'm not familiar with Hartung, but I think whoever would pay practically anything for that car has more money than sense.

the Homer was designed by one, the Veritas looks like a committee was involved. it would almost look better if it were backwards.

I thought it was ugly too, but Hartung had a knack for buying one of a kind cars like that. You should look into his story, I'm surprised you hadn't heard about him and his collection.

I thought Hartung was the maker of the car, like he had taken something and added parts to make it an "art car" or whatever... I vaguely recall hearing about it now. I was looking for a project car last November too before I lost my job. I can't believe how cheap some of them went for. I wish I could have gone to the auction.
