And now for something completely different... My 1993 Sentra.

Packing a whopping 110 hp under the hood with no amenities save for an automatic transmission it's beauty lies in it's solid design, economical nature, and rather decent performance over a road trip that took me 4500km over mountains and plains and to the ocean and back.

It is a little battered but the engine runs as well as it did when it rolled out of the dealership 120,000 miles ago and it only gets passed on steep hills, the suspension offers a nice balance between ride quality and handling and the engine is so quiet at speed it is amazing.

My last one ran over a million kilometres...

And now, back to your regularly scheduled car porn.

I almost bought one of those with almost 400k on the clock that still ran like a top. Great cars those old nissans. I've heard from a few friends with newer nissans that their build quality has gone way downhill.

Here's one of my favorites. The 1971 300SEL 6.3 known as "The Red Pig." It pretty much started the craze for luxury muscle cars.

my old '93 6-speed 968 coupe

just sold this week. the first time in decades i haven't owned a car. bought in 2000 for $16k. drove it every day for several years. easily my favorite of the six cars owned.

if i could go back in time to age 16, tell that car crazy kid driving a '67 camaro, that, in 20 years, he won't own a car, but will have several vintage road bikes, i hope he wouldn't worry too much about that future, and maybe even be pleased. can one actually hope about the past?

The Ford Falcon, always underestimated, but perhaps the most influential Ford since the Model T, especially when you consider how many Fords were derived from it from the Mustang to the Fairmont and more. Here it is competing in the the Monte Carlo Rally.

Maybe the best looking car ever.

This thread needs something French. For a few blocks today, I rode alongside an old man driving a Peugeot 504 Diesel Automatique:

But it was older, chrome trim instead of 80's black, red and no roof rack. A little dinged up, too. I figure the guy has had it since it was new (late 60's?) and was still plugging around Palo Alto with it in their old age.

Did you tell him that the war is over and he can quit surrendering and running away and go home now?

If we're going french why not something really french. When I was about 5 my dad picked up one of these, I remember thinking it was like a spaceship compared to the 49 ford or the VW bug.

I wanted him to lower his window, but he was after all an old man and I wanted him to focus on his driving.

That's the road version of the group B rally car, which Peugeot had to make for homologation:

That has always been in one of my top three most beautiful (E-type 6 cylinder and Dino being the other two).

I wouldn't use the word beautiful, but it is my understanding that the 2CV is an engineering masterpiece. I believe they are still used as camera cars at horse races because the suspension gives the smoothest ride on the rough ground of any car made before or since.

The 2CV had a very interesting suspension setup. It was made to be extremely soft and have lots of travel for "off road" use. The car shown, the DS, was one of the first cars with Hydropneumatic suspension, which was invented by Citroen. My Benz had it as an option, but thankfully the original owner didn't get it. Very very pricey system if anything goes wrong.
