Vauxhall Monaro VXR... I know someone who somehow managed to get one of these shipped over despite the very strict rules for import here...While it is a pretty car, I like its performance even better. The Top Gear with it makes it look like such an awesome car.

Ditto for me. Isn't there a left-hand-drive version, somehow? Made for the Middle East market, maybe...

OK, nevermind the Maloo. I want a HSV shooting brake:

They were sold here as the Pontiac GTP a while ago. I still see one every once in awhile.

Also the Pontiac G8 was a rebaged Holden Commodore (and same as the HSV Maloo and Shooting brake)
They were thinking of bringing the Maloo here but slow GM killed the idea and stopped it all.

It's actually the GTO that was the Monaro equivalent. I have another friend with one of those too. The GTP was the "performance" version of the grand prix. I thought it was just a rebadged GTO at first too, but he's got all the little differences, like the front bumper and hood. It's entirely possible he had just those things shipped over, but that would seem kind of silly to me. I know he was in the military, so I'm assuming he was stationed in Australia, if it is legit. I know from the benz scene that pretty much the only people that can get cars less than 15 years old imported besides certain connected dealers are military personnel. I'll have to check out the VIN number or something next time I see it.

Yeah GTO, that's it. It's a sleeper.
Yeah there are some minor cosmetic changes and it sounds like your buddy has the Aus version... but i'm sure some people had parts shipped over, people are crazy like that!

I still think the G8 GT is very handsome and nice big sedan, they are rare as hens teeth- at least around my area.

Shooting Brake HSV would have been too tempting, I would have bought it if Pontiac offered.

Yea people, especially car fanatics, are crazy like that. It wouldn't surprise me that much if he had paid the grand it would probably cost to ship items that large. I'll try to get more details on it. I've seen probably 1 g8 Gt, and it was flying down the highway... and I like to cruise at pretty high speeds when on the highway. I like the G6(I think) Gtp or whatever the smaller one is too. Those are more common, but not too much more. It's a shame my old buddy with the regular 2004-ish GTO has really beaten up on it. I wonder what the quality is like on the newer pontiacs, I haven't really heard much, but I certainly like where they've been going looks-wise the past several years.

Edit: Haha, I just went to check out a local chicago forum that I think I've seen the guy with the "Monaro" on, and found a G8 GXP for sale. A 2009 with 7,500 miles asking $34,500. :0<---Shocked face.

Pontiac is dead. I think best Pontiac was the G8 GT, so it actually doesn't say much that their lineup was fairly unmemorable.
I don't know, I probably would have kept Pontiac and lost Oldsmobile... but...

When ever Holden gets a new export contract it makes news here, approx 3 months ago I heard the aussie Commodore will return 2013 with a new name states side and the body shape will be used in Nascar but exactly what, cant remember?

That's kind of unfortunate, though I guess the only logical choice for GM really. The body stylings of newer chevy cars leave a lot to be desired IMO.

Didn't Oldsmobile vanish back in 2004?

That's NOT a good example. If you take a close look you will see that they are over the pedestrian footpath as well.
