Roommate woes or Longing for September

This is all one big rant. In lieu of real responses, leave pictures of puppies.

My roommate, K, is leaving in September. I've known her since I first got here to college (Sept '04). Only moved in with her last summer. After we moved to this house in fall last year, there've only been problems. Little to no friendly interaction, but a ton of little concerns that go back and forth. Suffice it to say, I should have asked her roommates why she wanted to move out of living with them. I had only heard K's side of the story on that case.

Her quirks came out immediately when we got to the house. The first night, there was a bug on the window in the living room. The living room that had no furniture in it yet, nothing other than carpet and a fireplace. She rips out a bottle of RAID and sprays the thing, but it keeps moving, not dying. Shrieks and has me come kill it. Oh lord, it's my mother again. Later that night, same thing, except in her room. Then I hear her pumping something, god knows what, in the living room. I rush out there, find her with a multiple-gallon remote sprayer bottle of RAID. NO. I tell her to take that back in her room and that it's utterly unacceptable to poison the rest of us with poisonous chemicals. I never saw it outside her room again. However, she noticed a bug outside the window (not her bedroom window, but the living room window) and tore out there with a can of RAID, to which I told her to leave them alone outside and deal with the fact that they're out there.

Our internet connection was and is a contentious issue, too. First she moaned and groaned about the port Remote Desktop runs on, even brought her boyfriend in on it. He demanded I turn DHCP off on my router, otherwise I could never ever not-in-a-millionty-billionty years set up static IP addresses. Oh, wait, five minutes later, we had static IPs and DHCP existing in harmony and rules applied to let her have the RD port. I use a VNC server, which is actually easier for me in some ways. She also takes issue with my torrenting habits (wide bandwidth, short time) because hers are the opposite (thin bandwidth, long time).

Heat wasn't allowed to be held at ~70degF over the winter, could only be 65degF at most. When I brewed beer in the closet and had the heat at 72degF for a week, I got the whining of the century at me. She claimed it was summertime - oh, three months ago? Hardly! We had had a weeklong heat wave, which had just ended, which was her justification of it being summer.

She refuses to use the main fridge, instead wastes energy on a minifridge and running her computer 24/7. But won't accept responsibility for a higher portion of the electricity bill. Myself and the other roommate use our computers intermittently and turn them off otherwise. And neither of us use a minifridge.

A couple days ago, I left her bank statement in the mailbox when I was on my way out. I assumed she would be home an hour or two later and I would not (a reasonable assumption) and I would likely leave it in my parents' car - they were leaving the same night - so I left it in the mailbox. It got stolen overnight. I let the police and her know immediately. I even remembered what bank it was. What do I get? Called an a**hole. I tell her not to call me that. I get back inconsiderate idiot. Hardly even inconsiderate. Stupid, maybe.

I'm at my wits' end. She's moving out August 31. I'm off of work September 1st, so I'll have to have a celebration for my new roommate moving in, maybe smoke a brisket again or something. Maybe I'll brew some more beer before then so we can have an epic celebration.

My other roommate kick ***. Pays his bills, has my back and doesn't pull strange crap out of the blue. The replacement is awesome, too. Oh yeah, they both have their **** together.

Worst roommate story I've heard was a friend of mine living in a four apartment place in some university apartments.

Someone had a good amount of marijuana on the center table. Of course, the staff saw it through a window, got the PD to come in and grab all the residents living there.

Nobody confessed it being their stash, so all four were tried and convicted of drug possession, and thrown out of college.

I'm getting my own place in a month but I won't bore you with a list of annoyances.
