beer + empty stomach = stomach ache. Why?

Every now and again I will crack open a beer after a workout or whatever, and if I am really hungry (empty stomach) then like 1/3 of a beer gives me a stomach ache. It kinda feels like a brain freeze, only in the stomach. What gives? Any remedies?

ManBearPig drink a small glass of milk gulping it down quickly so it splashes down your esophagus coating everything good in your stomach. Ever had coffee black? Same idea. The milk is the cream that neutralizes everything.

That's my favorite brew. It is reasonably strong and has a ton of flavor going on, I have to have something in my stomach before I drink it as well.

Olive oil does the same thing.
What causes this is probably the mixture of carbonation and alcohol. Try making a habit of drinking a glass of water first.

Try something a little lighter than a IPA. A hefe or saison after a workout is better. Beer is my recovery drink. Screw the milk. I dont get stomach aches drinking a lighter brew like a hefe.

The beer is poking your stomach, trying to find his buddies, cheeseburger, pizza, and chips.

It's because you didn't offer your friends, us, anything. And then even if you still get an ache, at least you're among sympathetic friends.

finish the first beer. Open another one. The stomach ache will go away.

My thoughts exactly.

Although I never get a stomach ache.

Must be immune.

Or I have a constant 2.5 alcohol content so it wards off any ill feelings.
