why don't they require people to carry knives on flights?

i'm gonna go around stabbing people on flight! there, that oughta get the governments attention. maybe they'll pass this idea onto congress, anyway.

if they really wanted people to be safe on flights, why don't they just have everyone carry knives, big knives? i mean, as i read earlier hereyou could get a plastic knive on a flight (which would be hard enough to kill if made of kevlar or vectarin or something). so, why wouldn't it be a better idea for everyone to carry knives? what terrorist would start a fight on a flight full of knive toting people?

When was the last time you were on a long flight?

As uncomfortable and miserable an experience as air travel has become.....

As I've said before, in the 50's, Gene Stoner carried an AR10 on an airplane that then Vice President Richard Nixon was also flying on that day. No one thought this was in the least bit socially unacceptable. Back then, it was common and fine to carry concealed weapons on an airplane, with no need to tell anyone. Terrorist attacks were unheard of back then.

The main thing that would fix the safety of airlines is if people in this country pull their heads from their asses and stop allowing the incompetent buffoons at the TSA to screw everything up as they so often do with their insane and counterproductive, useless policies. Also, keep in mind that the last time airplanes were hijacked in the US, the government had more than ample warning, and they basically allowed it to happen.

Would I like to be able to carry knives on planes again? Yes. But I think it would be a futile and meaningless gesture. If you legalize carry of guns on airplanes for anyone who passes a NICS scan, that would be a start.

simple de-pressurization won't kill everyone. It needs to be explosive, take a huge chunk out of the fuselage (hull is ship) and render the plane completely inoperable and crash for everyone to die. (DC-10 cargo door for example)

Forget knives. Forks on those flights are actually capable of damage.

There likely won't be any terrorists on planes anymore. This was a major paradygm change, from the time where people expected if they cooperated, they would remain alive, but after 9/11, people will fight for their lives, rather than remain sheep.

I do agree we should have some security at airports, but you can't be 100% secure and making lives of travellers absolute hell trying to is just going to make the true terrorists have a toast to victory, while they go back to their drawing board.

I find it ironic that prisoners have more rights and laws to protect them and their well being than commercial airline passengers.

There are internal, Federal, and state laws against overcrowding, not feeding, and not offering proper timely restroom access for prisoners. Same with speedy releases.

First of all, you ain't gonna depressurize a jet with a small caliber gun. The pressurization control valve on the exterior of the jet is about the size of a trash can lid. It opens and closes to control airflow to maintain cabin pressure. So, unless you manage to shoot out a very thick triple pane window, you have to put a lot (somewhere in the thousands) of bullet holes in the hull to depressurize the jet.

My theory is put those souvenier baseball bats in every seat back on the jets. Everyone gets a bat. That way, if anyone jumps up yelling "Allahu akbar," with an intent to do harm, the rest of the passengers can apply corrective measures.

Umm....can you say 9/11???? How do you think they took over the planes...with box cutters! It don't matter if everyone else is carrying a knife...i think they took the stewardesses hostage or something. So yeah, thats why no knives.

how hard is it to sharpen the edge of a credit card?
I mean, you can easily cut someone with that, so a knife is really kind unncessary on a plane.

mainly you have to have a plane full of people who don't mind losing the lives of a few hostages in order to save everyone else.

hard to say whether or not that would really happen.

Yeah, I can barely get my small carry on under the seat in front of me, no way is there enough room on a crowded flight for theatrical dancing.

If you take 5 -7 magazines, tightly roll them together and put strips of duct tape around them to keep them together, you will have the ballistic equivalent to a baseball bat. If you take the tightest wrapped magazine in the middle poking out the top, fold it over, and very tightly duct tape some higher quality metal pens in the middle so they stick out like a pick ax, it will be like a baseball bat that can fracture a skull with ease. Variations of this can be made in 2-5 minutes, depending on how tight you want to make it, and whether or not you do the pen thing. This is actually why prisons restrict magazine supplies.

who is gonna carry a roll of duct tape on a plane? And just happen to have 5 -7 magazines with them? And take the time to put it all together if there was an emergency developing?

A smart person who wishes to be prepared, the magazines are provided on the backs of the seats, and that would be that smart person again.

right....so you carry a roll of duct tape on your body whenever you get on a plane? I bet TSA agents have a lot of fun with you when you go through that line.

550 cord, and duct tape, everywhere I go. Yes, the TSA agents have fun with me, the titanium plate in my leg ensures it.

Incorrect.

They can get a magazine subscription as long as it's direct from the company. You can also buy them from the prison store - but it's only magazines that the prison system has approved.

I have question.. when women take showers together in prison - do they really turn up the hot water all the way to steam up the shower room - so they can have their group orgies without being noticed by the guards? ... do they really have the color video surveillance so the guards can watch them - until the lens gets all fogged up? In real life - how do they 'really' punish the guard who is caught spying on them in the shower scene? (inquiring minds..)
