A fine watch is both beautiful jewerly and fine mechanical craftmanship. It is art like a painting and most appreciate in value so they can be an investment as well. Finally they are also a very nice heirloom to hand down to your kids which can hand it down to their kids creating family memories and history.

That PAM 318 is really nice. Is it a 42mm? It looks on the smaller size for a Panerai.

Nothing nearly as cool as those in this thread, but I rotate between three Victorinox Swiss Army watches and a cheap Timex Ironman for biking and running. My original SA is an Officer's model that has been completely rebuilt once after a lot of use and abuse. My other two are a steel chrono and a full Ti chrono that I wear almost all the time now.

I've got some photos of it while riding but they all show my white bar tape that I could never keep clean. I've since switched to black tape.

Not as fancy as most, but this is my go-to watch. Bomb-proof.

I sincerely hope no one who contributed to this thread ever complains about their wife's or girlfriend's need to get another status purse or pair of shoes.

In other words, count me in the "I don't get it. You could help someone go to college with the money you spent on that Rolex" camp.

My wife has several Coach bags. I have exactly zero Rolex watches. This isn't adding up. I went to college, though.

Don't take me seriously. I was just joking. Well, mostly.

I have some fancy vintage Movado Museum watch that my mother gave me. I took it in for service and the woman at the Movado store got really quiet and said she never thought she'd see one of those. *shrug* I never wear it.

I only wear a watch when I'm going to a race, and it's a crappy Timex Ironman.

Why buy a Rolex when a Timex will work? (Insert rationale here)

Why buy that expensive LBS bicycle when a cheap wal-mart bike will work? (Insert rationale here)

Why buy a Porsche when a Hyundai will work? (Insert rationale here)

It's a choice, it's my money, what I do with it is nobody else's business. They can criticize all they want, but in the end, I just shrug it off and go on with my life.

If I didn't bring home the occasional Coach bag, there's no way in hell my wife would let me walk in with a $3K bike. I'm just going to ignore you, Terex. You seem like one of those weirdo's who rides one of those skinny tire bicycles. ;-)

As for the topic, I'm a big Movado, Citizen, and Bulova fan. However, my Timex Ironman sees the most action.

Yeah, women aren't attracted to expensive stuff at all.

I know a couple of guys with 6-figure watch collections who think I'm completely out of my mind for spending 5 figures on a bicycle. Everyone's got their poison...

My wife says that my tires are too skinny too.

Did you know that it's farther from Texarkana to El Paso than it is from Texarkana to Chicago?

I'm a lowly Skagen Titanium guy myself. Its only positive attributes are low cost, accuracy, light weight, and a slim, attractive, understated design. The only negative it has is that it's not a Coach.

Well, my watch was a present from my wife to mark the acheivement of my masters degree.

I never complain about doing anything for my wife.
