I have no idea what this means. Nor do I care. Good grief it's a Watch Weenie.

I bought the watch because it looks cool, it's light, and it's titanium. I had an Aerospace for ten years until 2007 when it popped off my wrist while cycling. Now I wear my old Seiko Ti watch when I ride and the Breitling the rest of the time.

My mom found this old poem/essay that I wrote in 3rd grade.

"If I was in charge of the world there would be no school and no bedtime. Bikes would be free, and you would get to race on them everyday. There would be no sisters and no brothers to tie up race money. Everyone would have just one kid, and nothing would cost money, for me at least."

Watch sales have declined for the past several years - cell phones, Ipods, etc., come with clocks. I don't wear one because it's that much extra weight to pedal up a hill, and my cyclometer has a clock.

Watches have long been obsolete for most. Even so, a $15 digital will provide all the function you need at a very light weight. I don't think I'll ever be able to kill my cheapo ironman. This isn't about function. Watches are jewelry, and like most things BF, serve as a great way to parade e-wangs.

I have this Rolex Oyster Datejust

I'm planning a purchase of a Frank Muller Cintree Curvex, but that needs to wait until after the next bike arrives!

Expensive watches make even less sense than a $200 carbon fiber floor pump.

I wear a $40 plastic Casio digital WR 200M. Shockproof, 3 or 4 secs off a month, worked OK for 11 yrs, no worries about damaging it in a crash and nobody would steal it.

    LOL,
Keep thinking that. I sold my Rolexes years later for exactly what I paid for them, actually a couple hundred more. I know a guy who inherited his grandfather's Patek Phillipe collection. I could retire on what they are worth, literally.

true statement, good watches are a solid investment, and depreciate very little.

Pcad, what he is saying is that the movement in your Breitling is an outsourced/"cheap" quartz movement and is implying that you paid too much for it. I don't agree because a "Breitling" will always hold its value.
Rolex makes their own movements, but the Valjoux 7750 in my Breitling which is also outsourced is just as good or better than anything rolex makes. Rolex bracelets suck, I owned 2 and they feel and sound like a tin can.

I think the issue that was being raised was the price in relation to function.

Early watches, when everything was mechanical, had huge differences in accuracy and performance... not so with quartz, so the reality is that a ten dollar knockoff korean mickey mouse digital watch keeps time as well as a patek phillipe. For ten dollars.

Whether they hold their value is an issue I can't speak to, but I have lost/broken enough watches over the years that I buy 'em cheap and wear them until they give out.

I'm probably more of a watch nerd than a bike nerd! lol

My collection currently includes a Breitling Superocean, Omega Speedmaster Professional (Moon watch), Rolex Airking, Omega Seamaster, Universal Geneve HW, Zenith Elite HW, Zenith/Movado Museum HW, TAG Heuer 2000 Auto, Rado Day/Date Auto and a whole pile of Swatches, some other vintage pieces too (Hamilton, Longines, manual wind Timex, etc).

A $50 Walmart bike will ride around the neighborhood as well as a Pinarello. For $50.

Dress watch = 1919 IWC pocketwatch made into wristwatch in early 2000s.

Back of IWC (with exhibition back installed.)Cal 74

Daily wear Zeno with manual wind movement (no hacking, no quick set date. Really cheap but lovely.)
