That's not too bad. Figured since it was a Rolex would be more like $500 - $1,000.

I love this thread. I know nothing about watches but marvel at their beauty on this thread. I had a beautiful watch which was my Grandfather's but sadly someone broke into our house and stole all our jewelry including it. I couldn't care less about the other jewelry but the loss of that beautiful old watch saddens me to this day.

Thank you. I paid about $300 more from that, decided to go through an authorized dealer rather than grey market. It was very, very tempting though.

The couple of times I've had mine serviced it's been over $500, IIRC. That included some repairs. But, I think just the basic service is more than $200 at the Rolex certified jeweler I use.

Awesome watch, you'll love it. I picked one up on a watch forum a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I get more people noticing the OM than any other watch in my collection. Mine came with the original rubber strap and Watchadoo bracelet.

Very nice. The guy listed this one for $150 with both straps shown. I saw it as soon as he posted it and paid for it a few minutes later. Hard to pass it up. Out of curiosity, are you on watchuseek?

My new Stuhrling. Nothing fancy, but I like the simplicity. Very thin and lightweight. Not bad for $50.

I wear a watch all the time except for sleeping or riding. An old cycling coach of mine would collect all the team's watches before a race and return them after.

To use when cycling, I like my Timex Weekender. Its comfortable, light, easy to read, especially at night with the indiglo. I don't have to worry about it since its cheap.

My more dressy watch:

Yeah, pretty much.

I was watch-less for several years while I read time off of my phone. Last year at work, we started keeping cell phones out of our daily routine (to be honest, we don't need them anyway), and I eventually got tired of asking other people what time it was. I had a cheap Timex on hand, but it was strictly a beater.

A year ago at Christmas, my father-in-law bought me a nice suit, and because I think it's cheesy to pull out a smartphone just to peek at the time, I wanted something to wear with it. I have my grandpa's quartz Seiko, but it lost its water resistance when I had its battery replaced a few years ago, and its new battery has since died. So, I started looking for watches that didn't need regular battery changes, which led me back to this thread. That's when I started getting geeky about mechanical and solar watches.

I think they're just really neat little pieces of gear. The amount of stuff that can be jammed in there without any electricity to drive it all -- that's where engineering becomes art.
