    Possibly my last Ebay purchase

I just bought this camera on eBay. First the dude tells me I owe him $5 more for shipping AFTER I already paid the invoiced amount because he "made a mistake". Fine. I pay the $5 because I don't want him to microwave the camera or something and $5 isn't going to make me go hungry.

The camera finally arrives today and I do some quick testing... no flash. The flash is totally dead. I guess by "Item has been tested and is in complete working order" he meant "I looked at it and it seemed ok."

I'm leaving for a holiday in Montreal a week from today and need to replace my old SD600 (which my ex kept). Now I have to go to BestBuy and pay way more than I want to, dammit! That effer better refund my money...

For used cameras I recommend K.E.H.
They are a quality company who cleans, inspects, and repairs the cameras before they post them up.

paypal dispute. if all else fails, leave negative. sellers cannot leave negative for buyers anymore, so you won't get a retaliation feedback.

Yeah. I'm sure I will get my money back via paypal and it will all work out. I'm just annoyed that I didn't get my camera in time for my holiday. I really like that camera too. Maybe my ex will let me use hers? (har har)

You may not have had a stellar experience with him, but at least contact him first to let him know the problem. There is a good chance he will take it back if you explain it. The PayPal dispute route is something you do only when the normal channels don't pan out.

Agreed. I didn't mean to imply that I would immediately jump to Paypal dispute. I've already emailed the seller. This transaction was already soured because he asked for more money after I'd already paid for the item plus the posted shipping cost.

There are some items when you should not buy on Ebay, and digital cameras are at the top of the list. There are many stores who sell used digital cameras, particularly pawn shops, and in these places you at least get to see and handle the camera before you buy it. These places are usually flexible on their pricing as well. I usually begin by offering half of what they're asking, and usually settle at 10% or 20% less than what's on the tag. A few times they've accepted my 50% offer, so don't be afraid to haggle.

+1 on the dispute. If that doesn't work, before the ability expires, put the fact that the seller demanded additional money in the negative feedback, as well as sending you a non functioning item.

Paypal through your credit card. Then you can cancel the credit card transaction as well.
