Pickup truck to 350cc motorcycle gas savings in 2 weeks?

Crazy...

My '98 sliverado 1500 gets 14/17mpg

My '71 honda 350 is getting 48-53mpg

In two weeks i've saved $115.

This thing is going to pay for itself in a couple months. Look at the joy in my face, looking at my new baby

your p/u probably has like 15x the displacement, too..

Nice scoot!

lucky53s 07-21-08 04:01 PM

Not quite...try a little more than 14x

But that's hardly the point.

your pickup is 700cc ?

btw, 700cc = .7l

there are no cars made with .7l engines, at least in this country.

lucky53s 07-21-08 04:09 PM

Classic. It's a nice old throwback. I like those and the old Triumphs (which they are making again)

My 355 Chevy was 5.8 liters, 5800 cc. How many liters is your truck. Now divide that by 350 and you have your answer.

it's a 5000cc motor...14.28, or a little more than 14x, like i said ;)

i want a motorcycle bad. i really like the looks of those old 70s hondas and the like.

the little bit i've looked into used motorcycles has indicated that they are way way overpriced in my area

Welcome to the "Classic Honda Riders Crew" if you need parts for that Cb-350 twin try DrAtv or Old Man Honda (easily found on the net) Sunny days and Safe Miles to you Sir!

The one on the left is a 1971 Honda Trail 90 (approx 80 mpg) and the one on the right is a 1983 Honda Trail 110 (approx 70 Mpg) They get lotsa looks and the becoming more frequent "You Suck,Dude" from the SUV/Pickup owners at the Pump! And a Rip to ride too!!

lucky53s 07-21-08 04:15 PM

How long have you had the bike? It would be awesome if it was your dads or something and it just got passed down but I'm guessing it was bought elsewhere.

Rural Roadie 07-21-08 04:16 PM

Back when I was riding my 350 Twin thats the mpg I got too.

JF1 07-21-08 04:25 PM

That's awesome. I have a feeling old bikes, peds and scooters are going to become popular. My neighbor is thinking of selling his '83 Honda and I might snatch it up.

My dad snatched it at a swap meet for me. $600, (still owe $200 :()

My plan within the next year is to repaint it and clean up all the chrome...it only has 7500 miles on it.

We looked into Scooters and small motorcycles for about six months before buying the '71. With the Chinese dumping all those CHEAP "Twist and Go's" on the US Market and the fact that there is no Dealer or Parts Supply Setup for most "Chinariders" and the fact that a Vespa is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too Spendy,we figured that the venerable Honda Single was the way to go on a small motorbike.
Parts are easy to get,Honda still makes this engine and tranny (They have been building the Postie Bike in one form or another for about 50 years now) and its a lot more classy than some plastid "Chinarider" that will break within a thousand miles!!! The 71 has 11,000 miles on it and the 83 has 5700 miles. And like any well taken care of Honda they run like Swiss watches!!

For those who may be thinking about buying a "Classic" Motor bike....Grab 'em while you can. The value on BOTH of these has DOUBLED since we purchased these!!! we have about 2200 in both of 'em and I can get that on ebay for the 110 alone!!

huhenio 07-21-08 04:40 PM

old hondas are better than any new chinese crap

Actually I think that the Honda Twin is a Classier Choice than a UJB (Universal Japanese Bike)
