Censoring "Gay" in a online game.

What do you guys think of this? This is a complaint letter I sent out:

I was playing Combat Arms and was shocked to see that the words "Gay" and even "Homosexual" were censored. I was wondering what prompted your company to be so against someone's sexual preference, that they would ban it from a popular game. I did not see that "Straight" was censored on the game. I am asking for the censor on these words to be removed, as I see no reason to censor someone's sexual preference.

So, I'm separating my feelings about it (in agreement with yours) from why I suspect those words are censored. I know nothing about this game, but is there some way the words could be used by trollish people in order to be extremely disruptive? That would be the main reason I could see someone doing that.

Well, this game is probably played by teens, who use Gay as a derogatory term. I don't know why Homosexual would be censored though.

Those terms are generally used in a derogatory fashion in online gaming.

I've played a few. Your complaint letter is likely to get a few lols.

"Straight" can easily be a command, which is why it's not censored.

What other rude & derogatory terms are censored?

Words like ****, ***, ****, ****, *****, ****, and **********?

I figure that since "gay" and "homosexual" are pretty much only used as derogatory terms in online gaming, and they aren't much use in a combat game, and hyper-protective parents are deathly afraid of gay pedophiles , it's not much of a stretch to see them being censored.

If you think that is bad, then you should have seen what we had to deal with in SOCOM.

We couldn't even say things like "penetrate" or "bang", which were considered to be words with tactical meaning by most of the players.

I also think that Combat Arms is as close to a console FPS as you can get on PC.

The movement, weapon behavior, maps and models are all very SOCOM II-ish.
