What about the Bass meisters?

a companion thread to the guitar lists; some obvious bassists:

John Entwhistle, Paul McCartney, James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Flea, Jack Bruce, Stanley Clarke, John Paul Jones

My picks:

Eric Avery
Geezer Butler
Leigh Gorman
Larry Graham
Greg Lake
Robbie Shakespeare
Paul Simonon
Tommy Stinton
Mike Watt

I dunno any names, but any of those disco/funk band bass players are kickass in my book. I learned how to play the bass by listening to disco and following along.

6-year bassist here, seconding Larry Graham. Get down that staccato right hand control and play "If you want me to stay".... so groovy.

I also love Joey Spampinato of NRBQ - flat wounds, short scale hollow body bass and thumb = upright sound. Those guys are such awesome musicians.
