Hair do's

I think I might have heard my wife say something about this before but it sunk in today. I went to get my wife from the Beauty Shop after I got home from work. she told me to stop by the ATM for $80 in cash for the lady that was doing her hair. I started to blabber something about 80 bucks for a damn haircut, (mine are $8 and I think I look pretty damn good). Then she said that is much cheaper than her other beautician. OMG how much do you think she was. Is that normal or is my wife buying crack or something too?

I...what?!?!

The ladies in the corner beauty salon do $40 for haircut + coloring, $25 each if done separately. Add a $5 or more tip (I wouldn't tip more than $10 because I'm cheap, but if you really like the stylist, add more), and it goes from about $40-60.

$80??!?! Where does she get her hair styled, a really expensive salon?

No it actually was a little shop attached to the house. Hummm, maybe she really is buying crack.

One guy who cuts my hair charges $12. Wow. 110 sounds like a lot.

Dude, that's not bad!! If you guys were in Colorado, I'd ask where her salon is! I've spent upwards of $200 for a good hairdo before (the whole shebang; cut, color, highlights, and style).

Then I had a kid. My last haircut was $20 and the box of hair dye I used was $3.

$80 is cheap. If my wife comes home feeling beautiful after her $160 cut and color, life is good for me.
My $20 (with tip) haircuts work fine for me.

Guess I'm lucky my wife works at a salon so we both get ours done for just throwing the stylist a tip.

Well, my last cut was free c/o teh bf's mum. It looks just fine.

I would really not pay any more than $50 for a cut & color, and that's already pushing it. I guess I'm just cheap.

My wife used to do the $80 bit.

Now she gets a $30 cut and a $5 box of hair dye.

not that I have a g/f or wife, but $80 isn't that bad, especially if she has a lot done to it.

it's around low $50 ~ mid $100 ~ to high $160 from what I've heard and seen.

Haircut + color for me ranges $100-150. Course, mines slow growing and requires a visit 1x only 3 months (and I think I'm giving up on the dying, and its been over 4 months since my last salon visit) so, I'm really slashing that budget.

Depending on a guy's hair it would be ridiculous to spend that. I cut a few friends' hair both guys and girls- but when it coems to guys I'm only good at two things: buzz or crew. In college I had a lot of military friends, and I worked for beer.

My hair grows FAST and my wife had bugged me for years to grow it long. So I went six + months with out a hair cut, then she made an apointment at her hair dresser for me. She gave me a stylish do for about $80 plus tip, which the wife paid for. Two weeks late I went to Sport Clips and had it all chopped off. I hated having long hair. I don't know how you girls can stand it.

I haven't gotten a haircut in almost two years. I could buy a brand-new fancy-ass bike with the savings versus what some of you pay for a haircut.

If I'm paying over $100 for a haircut, that **** better be permanent.

I've dated a few girls with buzzed heads. With the right shaped head, it's pretty hot...

It's normal, which is why I refuse to participate in that aspect of the American Female "Beauty" System. I haven't paid for a haircut in 13 years.

If you ever do need a trim and you also want to visit Portland, my housemate is really good at those kind of cuts. You could probably subsidize your trip on the money you'd save.

I'm pretty sure I don't have that "right" shape... or at least would rather not find out.

I remember when my first wife spent $65 to get her hair done, in 1985 or '86. I was stunned, because I had just sold off a handgun for about $200 because we were broke; she had lost her job, a baby was on the way, my rookie cop pay was quite low, and living paycheck to paycheck was precarious.

So, translated into 2008 dollars, $80 is not too bad.

FWIW, I have recently taken to shaving my head periodically, or letting it grow out a few weeks and getting the occasional buzz cut. I have been told I look good with really short hair, and the price is right. I have seen a few women with buzz cuts lately, and with the right head shape, it can be quite sexy. Practical, too, in coastal Texas heat and humidity.
