I'm getting rushed by the Greek Frats?

Hilarious!

I just transferred into Purdue, as most of ya know.....

I'm getting recruiting letters from all the Frats, with offers of scholarships, etc.....provided I am a frat resident. Now......I'm 48! I'll feel like dad in a house full of teenage boys! One even offered my wife house mother if I elect to join once they found out that I'm also married. What ya think? Should I consider, or should I take a pass? I'm not interested in living with a bunch of drunken frat boys, that's for sure!

Frats are antithetical to meritocracy. I couldn't abide either the shenanigans they pulled, the non-existent maturity level, nor the reputation they had for academic dishonesty. Not that everyone in frats is evil incarnate, but on the whole, the world would be a better place without them.

How's that for a no-punches-pulled opinion?

as i understand it, there are typically many more members of frats than actually live in the house.

and yes, the frats do run the gamut from roofies-in-an-underaged-girls'-drink-animal-house-places to basically honor societies.

oh, they send letters like that to everyone.

Thank you. From my experience frats are ruthlessly corrupt. They openly and welcomely distribute alcohol to those under 21. This is an ethical issue when the frats are school-recognized and the police do nothing to help. I was very disappointed to see this conduct at my school. I have written letters and stopped campus police with little answers, and this year I will continue my search by talking to city police. My overall stance is that the frats I have witnessed will, of course, break the law every weekend night. I will not stand this lack of ethics and corruption and I dissuade another student from joining such a type of fraternity.

I've always said (and yes, even being a sorority girl-- ghasp) that if I ever had a son, I'd disown him for joining a frat. unless it was a service one.

Otherwise I consider them vile, and they encourage womanizing, alcoholism and drug abuse.

So does being 19 and male, it's probably not just the frat's fault.

At the school I went to the frats all had files of all the old tests they could lay their hands on. So if the prof started using old tests again the frat boys only had to memorize the answers, not learn how to do the work.

Fraternities are founded on honorable ideas. Unfortunately a fraternity becomes a vehicle for the things I mentioned- as do college residences with reputations as party houses.

Being Purdue, I'm not surprised they're rushing you. Its not exactly a campus bouncing with pulse pounding excitement. Great place to get a quality degree though

I read greek farts and I was wondering how if they were any different from regulars and why anyone would subject themselves to a rush of them.

Anyway then I read right and I think you would be way too sensible/smart/funny for your typical Frat Rat.

Absolutely, Tom, do it. It will be a great experience for you. Contrary to popular opinion, you do not have to sleep with them, LOL. Just rush 'em...

Do it, then do a reality show for your second, third, and fourth years (or however long you'll be there). You'd make some relatively serious cash.

You should just do Rush just to see the expressions on their faces.

My organic chem professor always used the same exams (or very similar), so people would just memorize old ones, screwing up the curve for all of us who actually tried to learn the material.
