The good ole days...

I was installing Fedora on my old computer, when I came across this old screen shot i took: http://www.bikeforums.net/joe/al-qaeda.jpg (note: 241 KB in size!)

Sadly, I cant seem to find the screen shots taken of the actual letter posted... I believe I lost all copies in the big database crash last year. I think I'll print this one out

Jeez, I had to read the article a couple of times to realize what was wrong with it... The web address certainly "changes frequently"!

About 25,000 unique visitors within 3 minutes. The host took my site off line as soon as the traffic hit. I recived a few calls from the press; my webhost was contacted by the FBI and CIA to get copies of logs and the original files.

Ah yes, I still haven't forgotten the old Al-Qaeda "hack". Nor have I forgotten the "events" on the forum two nights later with some guy calling himself ASS.

Being heterosexual, I just couldn't get into his voyeurism somehow.

I'll bet the FBI and CIA and other government agencies with 3 letter acronyms have files on the lot of us thanks to those silly middle eastern terrorists' antics. Bastards!

I wouldn't get too excited. Firstly, what can their files actually track from this forum? I have a free e-mail address that I can change within about 30 seconds, my IP changed when I changed ISP (and is different again if I log on from work). As any Screaming Jets fan about my avatar. To be honest, there isn't really a lot there they could use, and even less they wouldn't have had already.

It should also be remembered that nobody was ever sure it really was Alqaeda, at least nobody from this forum, and I doubt the FBI or CIA would tell anyone if it was.

Doesn't really matter of there is anything here or not. Our intelligence agencies have in the past repeatedly demonstrated their...well...their lack of intelligence.

Ah yes, how can we forget ASS - as I recall, he/she was mentioned for "member of the year" shortly afterward. What a credit to the human race.

I wonder where ASS is nowadays? Most likely involved in some other intellectual pursuit, I suppose.

What was that Al-Quida thing on BF.C anyway? Did the site suddenly get used by a bunch of terrorists or something for a short time? I remember the news article, but missed the event.

I do remember about two years ago or so, some kook wrote on-and-on about Islam. It was long and and boring and rambling like most religious fanatical ramblings.
It was completely non-bicycle related Joe cleaned it off the site the same day. I wonder if that somehow was related.

I had fun bumping up the warning message about "Don't view anything posted by ass" I think it made a strong statement about the type of people in the Bike Forums community. To see us working together as a team Roadies,Mountain bikers,Commuters and so on. They couldn't break through are relentless attack back at him. I bet to this day Mr.ass is still scratching his head about us.
Thumbs up to everyone!

What I liked was the fact that ASS kept bumping that thread himself. Not sure what he actually posted, as everyone had him on their ignore list before they actually scrolled down to see it, but I was sure glad to have his assistance!
