Race walking!

I think I'm seriously going to try this, as I already power-walk sometimes:

http://www.racewalk.com

Apparently, it's an Olympic sport. They even have sprints! And EPO!!!!

You should try the video game- http://www.videlectrix.com/racewalk.html

Just use the left and right arrow keys, to make your guy walk 50k. But if you go too fast, you fault, and are DQed..

i see a few people doing this in the park. i naturally assumed it's because they want to avoid the injuries you get when running or jogging.

it sure as heck doesn't look very "natural" to me.

I already think people walk relatively slow, this ought to be the new standard

People look pretty dorky doing it. It's the human equivalent of harness racing with horses.

I don't get it. If you're going to race from point A to point B to see who can make it there the fastest, why limit people from running?

Because it's walking.

I might try this sometime. It looks kind of stupid, but cool.

And just from trying it out, the movement is very natural. It's an optimized way of walking, that's all.

Natural?!? WTF is wrong with you people? Walking like a normal person is natural and running is natural because it's how we're designed to do things...We aren't designed for this race walking crap... People toss out natural like it's some kind of godsend or something. Next I'll be hearing that Crystal Meth is natural because it makes you feel good. Morons...

Oh, that felt good in a pcad kinda way..

pcad usually calls you a "Wussy" somewhere in the mix. If you try to walk really fast, you see that the form itself (while being too highly regulated, IMO) makes sense. When I would try and power walk, I would spend a lot of energy on the walk. Using the "racewalking" form, I spend less energy going just as fast, and I can go faster if I push it.

Of course, I would never walk like that in public...but it's definitely interesting.

Consider the swimming events: Backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly...why isn't every event freestyle? In winter sports, there are different events for two styles of cross-country skiing.

Isn't race walking kind of like having a contest to see who can whisper the loudest?

But Unsafe, look at that BOW!!! Seriously, walk like her and you'd go faster. Maybe even on the bike.

If I tried walking like that, I'd break most of the bones in my body.

Before Bill Nye was the "Science Guy", he was "Speed Walker" on a Seattle TV comedy show.

I may be wrong about this, so check with Wikipedia first, but I think that you have to surrender your Man Card before you can take up speed walking.
