When my wife was pregnant with our twins I suggested that if they were both boys that we name them after our fathers. My wife didn't want such common names (James and Ronald). I argued that they'd probably be the only Jimmy and Ronny in their classes their whole lives.

I know a 20-something Irene.

Also, Percy and Ada are awesome names. I hope they come back into fashion.

My Grandmother's name was Gertrude. She was born before 1910. Her family had German origins, so it seems understandable. Don't recall meeting any others - I guess WW I and WW II pretty much doomed the name's popularity. I always thought Ethel was a stranger sounding name.

I'm surprised Enid isn't on the list.

Funny how the popularity of names changes. We tend to not want to give our children the names of our parents and our grandparents. But the names of the generation before that are growing increasingly popular.

I know of an Irene and Ada in their 20s.

On a separate note, does anyone name their kids besides Anglo-American names such as Dmitri, Britta, Steffan, Igor, Hans, Inge, etc?

I'm 23. My grandpa tried to get my parents to give me the middle name of Melvin. Needless to say they went with James.
