California is turning me into a sick, twisted person

Ok, while I'm still a relative newbie to BF, I wanted to pass along the "Californication" of self based on a revelation I had yesterday. The Blonde and I were in Jelly Belly outlet store in Vacaville - she loves their sugar free stuff being a Type 1 - anyway, it just hit me like a sledgehammer, I'm looking at all the candy in the store, and I thought "How much energy/resources/labor did it TAKE to create all of the sugar necessary to make this stuff?"

Now, I'm not saying that to be anti Jelly Belly or Jelly Bean, but more from the standpoint of wondering what kind of impact our activities leave on the Earth, and that maybe we should be thinking about more efficient ways to make the various kinds of crap we use.

It is just like I recycle now without even thinking about it. In fact, I'll go to extra lengths to do it.

Sigh, in another year I'll be drenching myself in pachouli oil (sp?) and singing 60s protest songs, man.

You are making me think too much this late at night. Go take some Nyquil and go to bed or something.

You were sick and twisted before you set foot in CA.

No need to blame an entire state.

I have so many conflicts about Ca. I hate the state but I like where I live, I hate the politics but I stay here anyway, etc.....

Anyway, I find the epiphany at jelly bellies to be worth a giggle.

Don't fret your pretty little head about Jelly Bellies. They're primarily solar powered.

I know what you mean, in inverse. I lived in California for most of my adult life, and I still find it hard here after almost 4 years.

I automatically look around for a recycling bin everywhere I go, and they are very rare here.

t least the one thing I missed most about California will be happening out here in September... NO SMOKING IN RESTAURANTS!!!!!!

I agree about the politics, though, its like tax tax tax tax and then give it to people who *won't* work. We can solve the Cali budget crisis by simply cutting the hell out of Section 8 and Medical... if you want benefits, you HAVE to work. Light rail here in Sac is full of people during the day... able bodied... who smurf the rails for free, have expensive clothes, cells, bling, iPods and then head off to the Section 8 housing. They're living better than me!

We also need to REQUIRE the Gov to live in Sac. Arnold's always talking about carbon footprints, and then he's shuttling on a private plane back and forth between LA and his hotel room here. Hypocrite.

And bars. That rawks. One of the reasons I did not pursue a pro music career in the 80s is I *hate* smoking. Its disgusting. Every smoker should be required to eat vomit for BLD until they decide they'd rather quit smoking. I might start playing in a band again here because you can BREATHE the air and not die.

I think we need to clamp down even more and ban smoking basically everywhere but private homes. No people standing on sidewalks sneaking one. And that's one thing I'm completely in favor of taxing the hell out of.

Actually I really enjoyed the asian grocery stores the times I was out in Orange county to visit my brother.

Driving, however? No fa-reaking way!
