how do we feel about Colorado?

ghasp.

Just rec'd the most random email on LinkedIn... a boss I worked under for 4 years during college, I was a student assistant in Multimedia & Instructional technologies there.

Quote:
Hey ARTIFICE! How are you? This is a little selfish, but I moved to Denver, CO and we're looking for 2 good multimedia designers for our team and I thought of you. Any interest in moving to sunny Colorado and make good money with State University benefits?
I work at [branch of CSU], which is a start-up. It's awesome. We pretty make up our own rules since we're new. Your voice would really count here. The job description is at: amazingjobdescription.pdf
Ok, so.... Coloradans, what do you think of Denver?

Another note... I'm moving into that new apartment in less than a week. At this point, it'd be about $3grand for me to buy out of my lease. Is considering this even practical?!!

In addition to moving expenses, you can see if the new employer will buy out your lease. If they want you, they want you.

I lived in CO for 19 years and would love to get back the Fort Collins area. I use to roller blade and play disc golf at the CSU campus in Fort Collins. Do it.

I'm sure UA would love to have you move to CO

to be honest, I'm a little skeptical they'd be able to trump my current salary + benes.

thinking I might throw my resume in the bucket, though.

But CO is a bit of a benefit in itself. IMO.
You might mention your current situation, and see if they are amenable to working it out.

Colorado is awesome.
I live in the west Denver area, and love it. Lots of sun, mountains, good bike trails, good culture, and so on. I'm not quite sure of your current situation or what you'd be leaving behind, but I can recommend Colorado as a spiffy place to live.

I just moved to CO Springs. It's nice here, but being from a coastal state - and having pretty much lived my life along one coast or another; I am in the Navy, after all! - I don't think I'll retire here.

The weather is overall pretty nice, the mountains are incredible and the cost of living is about average. Denver is a bit higher than here.

Great place to be a bike rider, both road and MTB. Skiing speaks for itself. Hiking, climbing, pretty much any outdoor adventure is available here... except deep sea fishing or diving!

Good time to buy a house in Denver, too.

See what they have to offer. I wouldn't take a pay cut to move out here from where you are, but I'd probably move for equal pay/benefits. Especially if they'd pay to move me, which includes getting out of your current lease.

OOooo, I wouldn't want to be you when UnsafeAllthetime gets to your house. He's probably out at the border, hopping from foot to foot right now.

You have to ask? Do it!!!!!!

On the good side, Skiing, friggin ZOMG unbelievable skiing!, Mountains. GREAT biking terrain flats, rollers and Mountains. GREAT hiking, did I mention you can has mountains? Even CC skiing, the whole shebang. Pretty vibrant outdoors community. I colorado

On the Bad side, UnsafeAlpine!!

As for the 3Gs, you can always ask them for a sign on bonus. But wait, is this Fort Collins (where CSUs at) or Denver.

Oh and I dunno about Denver but a few years back, Broomfield, Longmont, had rents in the 600s for a nice Apts. Although you prob wanna stay a little west of Denver if anything.

Go to the Mountain-Plains subforum in the Regional Forum for more specific advice from Coloradans.

While I'm not a native Coloradan and have only been in Denver for 2 years, I really do consider it as "home". No place is perfect, but I've lived in New York, South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California and Texas, while my job has required extended stays in various other states and I can honestly say between climate, things to do & natural beauty it's the best place I've ever lived. You're also usually close to both metro & rural attractions and airports. An added bonus too: http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=95963 , which makes for good people watching.

Coming from some very cold states (I grew up in upstate NY and was in/around Boston for 15 years), the winters here (at least in Denver & Fort Collins) are a relative walk in the park. Coming from Minnesota, I would think one's experience would be the same. And even though summer highs very, very frequently reach 90+, it's still a piece of cake (I'll take 95 degrees in Denver over 75 in Austin anyday)The climate is also much drier than anything I had ever experienced (with the exception of 28 days in the Mojave desert!). I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to handle it (because I just can't HTFU sometimes), but I acclimated in about a week and it's been clear breathing since -- even my ragweed allergies that I'd have to deal with when I was east of the Mississippi are a thing of the past (knock on wood).

Did I mention that they have REAL snow and POWDER at times? Loveland ski area is like an hour away from Denver and is bigger than all the mountains of Minnesota put together and then some!

Put it this way. Last year I was looking at houses to buy in Boulder.

When I get a chance to go to Portland, I'll have to make my decision between the two.
