metal water bottle in airport?

So I have one of those stainless steel 20fl oz water bottles that I use every day. Assuming it is empty, will TSA allow me to enter the secure airport area with this?

Probably not, though I cannot find that specific item on any of their lists. I bet they use the less than 3 oz, clear container thing on you. I would not bring it if I did not want to lose it.

I would check it in the baggage or leave it at home.

Yes. I have a kleen kanteen. I flew with it. Just be sure it's empty.

I would pack it in your luggage. Since you can't have liquid in it anyway, what's the point of having it in your carry-on?

If you took an empty container thru the security checkpoint, couldn't you fill it later on the concourse?

Do it. Do it, man. Live life on the edge. And if you make it through to the other side, throw your head back and laugh that hale, hearty laugh with a satisfaction that only true adventurers can know!

Okay, so it sounds like as long as the bottle is empty, it'll fly (no pun intended). I will not thread the cap on, so that they don't think I am trying to make it more difficult for them.

I saw a couple in the secure area in Bozeman last month.. came through empty and then they filled them up at the water fountain.

I don't think the TSA has any objection to filling up once inside the airport; the airport itself, however, does.
