    Truck Engine

My poor toyota 4Runner is feeling a little sluggish. Does anyone know anything about trucks?!?! I am thinking about getting an unrestricted air intake system thing and then eventually a new exhaust. I am hoping that will help it accelerate a little faster.

I have a '91 saturn SL that makes 85 hp. it is slow as all heck. Usually, when I drive, I just floor it, and shift at 2000-2500 until I get to 5th gear...

however, before, I realized that my car was not MEANT to go fast, I would shift between 4000-and 5000 and it was still really slow. I decided I would hook it up. I got a few magazines, and looked around for parts. I realized that an AEM cold air intake was 150 bucks plus, an exhaust was another 200-300 for a decent one, and on top of that I didn't know how to do any of it, so I had to pay labor! before i knew it, that was like 600+ dollars down the drain for 10 hp.

and that was for a car that actually handles well, and could put the hp to some good use.

Its not worth it on a truck, and since you are 16, (no offense) it is probably an old 4runner. it probably doesn't handle very well. it is most definitly not worth the cash.

i will second that, its not worth blowing the money to make your truck faster. I have a jeep, and while its DAMN fast in a stright line (its a stick ) it corners like a 3 legged cow. You need stibility with speed, and trucks do not have that. I'm saving up for my subaru STI, and I'll have it in another 10 years

It doesn't hurt any less, you just go faster

Think about it, unless you are racing, who really gives a damn how fast a truck goes as long as it gets up to highway speed. Thats one of the reasons I own a pick-up, no temptation to think about going to fast.

What model do you have? My daughter has one and for some reason wanted an automatic transmission whe had to get a V6 or it had no power.

Could it be that it needs a tune up? Check compression to make sure the valves anf rings are ok. While you are at it look at the spark plugs. Do they all look the same? Are they burned or fouled? Check/replace all the filters and PVC, oxy ... valves.
