Dillinger and the Wild Bunch are my favorite movies ever, even if not the best.

Then there are the others, in no particular order- Blackhawk Down, Caddy Shack, Animal House, Aliens, The Ghost and the Darkness (if for no other reason than being a well made movie that 100% stuck to the truth) 7 Samurai, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, The Death Wish and Dirty Harry movies (strictly because I find them hugely entertaining, not because they are well made) and finally, 1941. If I wasn't getting pretty tired I could probably think of some more.

Fargo

Edit: Maybe not the best movie ever, but certainly very, very, very good -- and one of my favourites.

Throw in the Indiana Jones and Die Hard trilogies as well. (The Star Wars trilogy would be included, were it available on DVD...)

Serenity was a great movie, but it tends to make me sad, because it serves to underscore how good Firefly could have been if allowed to run its course.

That's my criteria for a great flick. Not really worried about what they'd say about it in film school....

I agree with the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns too; kinda cheesy in every way but vastly entertaining.

For me, the BEST flicks are the ones that combine a great plot, some food for thought, terrific acting and cinematography - with that little something extra. Most films are lucky to have one or two of these going fro them. To me, films like the first 2 godfathers and the Seven Samurai have them all, in spades.....

my list was short and off the dome...I already wanna add a few hitchock films (Notorious, North by Northwest) and I don't care how cliched it is - Casablanca may be the best freaking movie ever made....

which brings us to this
