how often do you clean out your cell phonebook?

reason being... i've got an ex from 2+ years ago who still texts me... every holiday like clockwork I get a "happy whatever" message. most recently (today) I got an invitation to go to NYC for a Yankee game (he even noted in the message "sorry if you arent interested I sent this to my whole phonebook")... after 2 years its time to delete my number!! And WTF why are you inviting your whole phonebook on vacation? I often think about writing something to that extent back but don't care to open up the door of communication.

I don't have his stored- just recognize it when it comes up... one of few people I know in that area code, even.

Not too often. Not sure what to do w/ dead people. In a paper phone book, could just put a line through them or something, not so w/ a cell phone, when they're out they're gone. I do never broadcast, that is weird.

Rarely. I added a school friend from Facebook, then deleted a couple of former co-workers. Probably the next time I add a new person I'll run through the rest of the phonebook and cull any old no longer called numbers.

I also assign a distinctive ring to the phone numbers in my phonebook so I know when it rings if it's someone in my phonebook, or someone new. Each person doesn't have his own ring -- only my partner's office number and my mom has a distinctive ring.

I've had my cell phone for like 6 years now, and have never cleaned out my phone book. I don't have very many numbers in it though.

Sounds kind of fishy that he sent it to his entire phonebook. Perhaps we should all respond with "sure I'll go"

I think when people send out that kinda stuff to their "whole phonebook", normally it's targeted to someone specifically; they just don't want to ask directly.

Everytime i get a new phone so that would put it at every couple of years. May change this time as my current phone saves numbers as outlook contacts and syncs with my computer.

He lied. He didn't invite his whole phonebook out to a game. He's just being weak, and he's trying not to look like a stalker.

I never erase my cell's phone book. My wife is the one who puts the stuff in there. I don't dare.

Hes not inviting his whole phone book...hes still stuck on you. You should tell him to stop texting and calling you outright....he probably still wont stop...sounds like he is very attached to you still.
that would be maddening

Oh and I've never cleaned mine out...but I do erase a girls phone number and contact info the minute we break up...the very minute...trust me what he's doing is carefully planned and no accident. the only way it will stop is if you have a direct confrontation.

I don't have that many contacts. I had to delete my X's two cell #ers because her purse got stolen out of her car while she was jogging this weekend and both phones were in it (car window smashed). I can't imagine what a PITA she's going through replacing ATM cards, changing accounts, getting a new DL. Not something I would wish on anyone.

I managed to lose my first Sprint phone on light rail. I've transferred over the numbers I've wanted to keep to my AT&T phone...

I know, like, 3 people, and only 1 of them gave me their phone number. If I updated my phonebook, there'd be no reason to have a cell phone, and how cool would I look then? Not Very...

These issues are easily solved by not having friends. In your faces, social butterflies!

I don't delete numbers so when people call asking for
favors I can tell who it is so I can ignore or if I am in a
really bad mood just hang up on them. Favors like

"can I use your truck even though I barely know you,"

"will you fix the lose shoe on my horse (random chick
from grad school who had a pet horse and knew
I used to shoe horses)"

"will you check on said horse while I am at a wacko ren
faire for oddballs"

"will you help me move (ex gf)"

"free legal advice about x area of law (that I probably
know nothing about"

blahblahblahblah

call filtering my friend.

OP maybe you should have a third party politely drop a white
lie on your ex and tell him you are in a convent.

I'm tempted to, but I keep numbers just in case they call and I know who they are.

And i'm probably the only person on earth who has a cell-phone and never uses it.

Never been one to have friends, so my phonebook is pretty small. The gf (now the ex) used to be about the only one I called on it. I rarely call my coworker on it (depends where we are in the building) and I do have my room mates number on it.

I did clean it out about a month ago though. Got rid of the ex's number, along with a bunch of other people (half being her friends). Apparently I still had numbers in there from a few years ago when I was skiing w/ my sister and a bunch of her friends. Haven't seen any of them since, so took their numbers out.
