Someone I care about very much is going to see Seinfeld this weekend...

And I think he's just not funny. In fact, he's the antithesis of funny. And every time I bring this up in public, I get pilloried. The problem is this-He's not funny because I'm not a New York Jew. Or, conversely, I need friends who aren't New York Jews. Or he's simply not funny, and should not be funny to anyone.
What should I do?

I don't find him funny either, and I am a Jew. My mother aspires to "New York Jew" and so I was raised as such. He's still not funny.

Why do you need to do anything? Are you being dragged along to go see him?

No, I managed to wiggle my way out of going, but I feel as though for the good of our culture, I need to take a firm stance against Seinfeld at any opportunity. Maybe I'm being too dogmatic?

i would say not going is a stand against him.

i think he's very not funny as well. but if someone else wants to pay their money to see him, that's their choice.

although i reserve the right to make fun of them for it.

he was funny, but mostly due to the ensemble of the seinfeld show. however, constant reruns have beaten most of that funny to death. now, after having all that 'bee movie' promotional stuff forced down our throats and upcoming microsoft ads, i think he's a hack. a bored hack with no direction.

I never really thought that he was all that funny, but I thought his show was great.

I agree, I enjoyed the TV show, first time through, and will watch an occasional rerun, but I never cared for his standup routine. Even the little bit of it they put on the lead-ins for the show seemed stupid.

I enjoyed the show and have only seen him on the talk show circuit. I would be interested in seeing his live act.

I think the show was great, but I think his stand up is not great, but I might go see it if it weren't too expensive.

I'm the antithesis of a New York Jew but can find humor in him.

But to each their own.

I never found the show that funny....a little chuckle here and there.

But those monologues - wow, does he stink. I could do a better job at stand up. Totally winging it.

no, really

The only thing he ever did that yielded a single giggle from me was where he tried to portray someone dull and boring. Other than that, I think he is the lamest excuse for a comedy act that ever was aired nation wide.

But hey, some people like him, so he must be doing something right.

I always found the show funny, but once I watched Comedian, which was in no way funny...something died inside me. I blame the smell on the dog.

You're not alone, my fiance from Montreal doesn't find him the least bit funny, nor the show.
I was born and raised in NYC, so I kinda get his act...NY Jew humor?
I found the show pretty funny, but then I am a fan of Michael Richards since the days of "Fridays".
I think the show was popular because the cast of characters are so annoying.

My friend had called me a really good Jew, although I'm not Jewish or Israeli. He says it because he thinks I'm good with my money.

No, I wouldn't pay to see him either.

Seinfeld is going to be MS's new marketing guy too.

Meh.

MS needs to get some advertising agency that actually has a clue.

Don't go and don't engage in conversations about the show with your friend.

As for "anyone", that's not for you to say. We all have our tastes, good and bad. It's not for you to say what anyone else finds humorous. Unless you'd prefer to go back to, say, Nazi Germany.

For the record, I've never found Seinfeld to be funny.
