The encyclopedia of the future! (as seen from 1945)

x, I thought of you particularly when reading this:
As We May Think by Vannevar Bush, from the July 1945 issue of The Atlantic.

The last page is really cool -- how he predicts information could be stored, linked and annotated in a sort of mechanical electronic encyclopedia.

It also makes me wonder how much our current predictions will fall completely short of what we'll actually see in a bit over 60 years.

what are our global prospects of the future anyways?
landing on mars? space or moon colony? internet 3.0 (VR)? androids? AI?
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)

All of those are possible, but what I was thinking after reading the article was that a lot of the coolest stuff will be things we aren't even thinking about yet. Or our predictions will only scratch the surface, and miss the really cool technology behind the scenes.

    I want smart fasteners

the days of bonding, welding and brazing bikes would be over with smart fasteners.
