I'm not a big fan of imaginative spelling like Steven, Steavin. Or Michael, Mikkil. Arlene, Rlene. It's fine when it's a traditional or cultural spelling, but when someone gets all "creative" I get a headache. (Of course, there's also the misspellings -- whether Dad has no clue, or the admin goes wingnut when inputting the info)

My wife is on a forum for preggos, and some of these people come up with the craziest names. They say that they want their kid's name to be 100% unique, so they come up some some really stupid spellings and such.

Here's an example I just had to save:

Since about week 14 i fell inlove with the name Jackson. Im not a person who likes the spelling how everyone does it, so i changed it...to Jaxon. I was so sure it was a boy. Well i was wrong obviously haha..... i couldn't bare to wait for a boy to use Jaxon. So, i changed it again... to Jaxyn. Im totally in love with it. I went on google and all sorts of sites for atleast a half an hour, i've found ONE person with the same name. I am thinking its pretty unique lol. Has anyone heard of really unique names?
    Reply:
I really like Jaxyn! the Y really makes it feminine!
A friend of ours named her kid Amiel, because it was a mix of Amanda and Daniel. His middle name is Alexzander, "so he could go by 'Zander' if he wanted".

I was never a big fan of my name.

    Darwin.

My middle name, Dale... Probably not bad, but I always think of Dale Rogers, so a women's name. Also there was a commercial when I was in high school for something where some kid comes up under a woman in a pool and get all embarrased and says, "Mrs. ___ I thought yoou were Dale." Another reference to a woman. Therefore, I never switched to using my middle name.

Also, I didn't feel like going by my initials sounded good either, some other Darwins I have met have gone by their initials, DA or DJ... DD sounds like a girl's name too... So, I was stuck.

I guess I could have done what several people do anyway before I correct them and go by my last name, but frankly, I really disliked my stepfather, and he often went by his last name... so that one was out the door...

So, I am Darwin, the lesser of the evils, and it is not as bad as an adult as it was as a child and teen. Adults are less cruel (at least about names).

Mike. God I hate that name.

It might have something to do with the ********** who stole my first girlfriend.

The worst I heard for someone else...

My ex-wife volunteered at the school, and there was a set of twins in the school. One was named somewhat normally, the other not so much...

    Norman and Danorman, pronounced Duh-Norman.

Seems like a strange avocation for one who steals others loves.

    Steal??

I don't mean to be an a**, but people don't "steal" girlfriends/boyfriends; they exploit flaws and capitalize on them. Something must've been wrong with the relationship or the girlfriend...I almost did it, and I've almost had it done to, and the reasons in both cases were similar, but related...

Four all total. I'm named after my maternal grandfather, I have his entire name with my father's last name tacked on the end.

My last name can be translated as maggot too.
