So did Microsoft ever have an original idea of its own, ever?

You do have do wonder about that.

do they answer in an Indian accent too?
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)

In all fairness that is the Software Industry Credo.

True, but rarely do you get the chance to be a monopoly without first having originality...

Japanese don't really invent anything on their own per say.
Some white chap invents something, and the Japanese make it 100 times better.

I believe Microsoft invented that original licensing scheme they forced on the PC manufacturers.

Not true, standard acquisition and merger to control market share doesn't require originality, just enough backers (which can include the owner) to finance the proceeding. Very successful for commodity market and markets with highly elastic demands if the owner has total control over supply.

    Examples.

    Arcelor-Mittal.
    China National Petroleum Corporation.
    DeBeers.
    Itera.
    OPEC.
    Richard Branson.
    Walmart.

    And of course, Microsoft.
