First football game in 2 years

Since my last HS football game i've been in front of 70,000 screaming fans photographing The University of Iowa. Maybe it's because i actually played for this team (i don't think that's it) but i really enjoy the high school games more.

This was the first game on this field since they renovated it. They put in (among other things) new lights. This went from the worst field i've ever shot to litterally the best i think. I was shooting at ISO 1600 f/2.8 1/400. My flash was malfunctioning so if it wasn't i probably would have shot at 1/500 and used the flash to fill in the shadows on the face. All in all i'm happy with these considering its been so long and i've only got a 200mm lens but i'm always open to input.

Working for a small weekly paper means your resources are pretty limited and unfortunately i couldn't find any stats, thus the blanks in my cutlines which my editor will fill in. The ones that are cut are the ones he got...

All of these were run through neat image

Woodstock's Collin Natrop (88) blocks Glenbrook North's Myles Nagel (33) springing Zac Johnson to the games first touchdown on Woodstock's first (length of drive?) scoring drive. Johnsan ran for ____ yards in the Streaks home opening victory over Glenbrook North of 20-6.

3

Woodstock head coach Steve Beard greets quarterback (8) Derek Brown after Woodstock's first touchdown. The games first drive lasted ____ and gave woodstock the game's first lead which they would hold to the end in their 20-6 victory over Glenbrook North.

**i really have to work on these jube shots. The play was away from me and i photographed it knowing that i likely wouldn't get anything. After he crossed the line i turned to the coach and saw him in the air. By the time i brought my camera up he had already calmed down. Sometimes you gotta turn away from the action to get the action...**

4

Woodstock's Derek Brown's pass to Mike Kremske (15) is broken up by Glenbrook North's Evan Stamatoukos (11). Despite winning 20-6, the streaks failed to convert many scoring opportunities in their second game and first win of the season.

5

Woodstock quarterback Derek Brown (8) attempts to hurdle over Gelnbrook North's Mark Kamin in the first quarter of Woodstock's 20-6 victory over Glenbrook North Friday. Brown completed the game with ____ rushing yards.

**
Me (to my old and current sophomore coach)-Plays like that can make my career
Him -Yeah, and they'll ruin his...

6

Woodstock's Kyle Sahs (23) and Tyler Gillaspie (60) team up on Glenbrook North's Tom Coughlin (3) causing a fumble that Glenbrook North recovered. Constant pressure on the Glenbrook North quarterback limited his production to ____ in Woodstocks 20-6 vicotory Friday night.

7

Woodstock's Josh Bruno (7) breaks up Glenbrook North's Tom Coughlin's pass to Evan Stamatoukos (11). The Streaks held Glenbrook North to ____ passing yards in their 20-6 victory over the non confrence opponent in their home opener Friday.

8

Woodstock's Zach Shannon (19) looks down an open field during his 57 yard return following a Glenbrook North field goal. The return was a welcoming boost for the Streaks offense, which had been held to 6 points in the first half, resulting in a quick ____ yard touchdown pass from Woodstock's Derek Brown to Mike Kremske.

9

Woodstock's Tyler Webster deflates Glenbrook North's last ditch effort to score during the final seconds of Woodstock's Friday night 20-6 victory over non-confrence Glenbrook North. Woodstock limited the Spartans offense to _______

10

Woodstock roudy fan section screams at the closing seconds of Friday night's home opening 20-6 victory over Glenbrook North. The game was the first on the newly renovated Lary Dale field.

Nice pics. Suggestion on the captions. Count how many times you used "Woodstock" in pictures 2 and 3. I suggest revising the wording a bit for a smoother read.

I don't make the rules man. I don't know if you've worked in the industry but every editor is different, all i do is try and appease the people who do the writing and since they make the rules those are the ones i follow

*edit*
though i do see what you mean.

Helps to have that background. The pictures certainly are impressive. I'd end up with nothing but blurs.

Get some good shots of players not carrying the ball; blocking, covering, presnap, in motion. Kinda like picture number 3.

Catching, carrying, and throwing get boring after awhile. I know resources are small and maybe you don't know much about a team and aren't being payed enough to care, but there could be stud lineman on one team or someone with an interesting story.

Cool shots btw, I suck at action shots.

Limited by the gear in this department. I was a lineman in high school so i know that they need all the love they can get. Unfortunately, with 200mm it's rare that you can get a close enough shot at the right angle. But i try every game. Job soon = new camera gear
