Portland OR peeps: where do you suggest taking a bike for repair?

I have an old Bridgestone that I obtained a short time ago, but the drive train is in horrible condition. The chain rings, chain, and derailleurs are pretty much trashed. There is visible chain wear on the components from it being ridden with a worn out dry chain for years and years. Otherwise the bike is in nice shape. I don't really have the knowledge to fix all of it, but I would like to get this bike on the road because it is quite attractive and seems to fit me well. The issue I'm having is that every time I have gone into a shop with other bikes I end up getting raped and quality of the work sucks.

I have thought about converting it to a fixie to save money, which is something I might actually do. The other option would be to let some shop in Portland set up some new components for me and hope I don't get raped. This bike couldn't be worth more than $300-$500 even once it's been fixed and tuned up, so I don't want to blow $1,000 on nice new components like all of my friends suggest. This is a 25 year old bike for goodness sakes.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Depends on what part of town you're talking about. If you're near NoPo I'll throw out Revolver Cycles as well. (on Interstate near Portland/Rosa Parks)
