Okay, now I'm concerned.

I thought that the rule was that those of a few generations prior to the current generation criticized the youth in its wrongdoings and state of confusion.

However, I'm not so sure anymore. A few days ago, my sister told me that my high school's pep rally, a longstanding tradition there, has been cancelled indefinitely because of the increasing amounts of underage drinking exhibited in the last few years.

Coupled with how my school also requested the help of the Renaissance program for funding and assistance in increasing the number of college-bound graduates, I am a tad bit concerned about *our* generation and the generation that supercedes mine.

High schools are paying students for grade performance and attendance.
Proficiency exams are being failed at an alarming rate.
Teachers pass students just to be rid of them, or out of fear for being sued...
Students sue their professors over failing grades.
Kids are turning in job applications rife with misspellings and txt msg shrthnd.
Personal bankruptcy is becoming increasingly commonplace because no one understands basic finance by the time they reach college and are bombarded with credit card applications.

You should be more than a little bit concerned. Be frightened. "Idiocracy" wasn't a comedy; it's a documentary, and I don't think it's going to take 500 years to get there.

I'd be willing to bet that the rate of underage drinking at my high school has decreased since I attended. More or less coinciding with my graduation.
