Sister woes

My Dad stopped by the shop at closing today and dropped a bomb on me.

My sister that just visited from CA a week or so ago has been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

She'd had a physical and a biopsy just before the trip and got the results after getting back. I put a call in, but no doubt she and her family are very occupied right now.

Man, I just can't believe it. It was such a nice visit too. Her kids are really cool, we spent an afternoon going through old family photos and laughing, and even talked about her moving out here and working at the shop once I buy it.

No, it's not over, but apparently she'll be starting chemo soon, so it's serious enough I'm very concerned and upset. I'll have to see if there's anything I can do to help once she calls back.

Oh man, I'm so sorry! There seems to be a wave of bad luck in the health dept lately. Sending out positive, healing thoughts for her.

Thanks for the well wishes folks.

I didn't hear back from her, but I'm also hoping for a full recovery. From what my Dad said, the first doctor was very blunt and clinical, the second was much more optimistic and encouraging. I just wish I knew more and could talk to her for a bit.

Well boo...

Cervical cancer is what i look for most of my day on pap smears. It's never fun when you find a malignant one and the patient is still relatively young...

Well, found out today why my sister never called back...my Dad gave me the wrong number for her cell.

I called today on the way to class, and all I can say is...she's a trooper. She is indeed going in for chemo next week. The cancer is localized to her cervix and doesn't appear to be anywhere else according to the tests. No surgeries are planned as the docs are hoping the chemo alone zaps the nasties.

She was more concerned with how her kids would take the news, but after talking to them about it today, all is well. She's not unconcerned, she is just taking it as it comes. She joked about having to wear a wig, I shared some things I found funny about the medical profession...it was a good convo, mostly just to let her know I love her and care about what she's going through.
