Have you ever had "the feeling"?

I don't know how to describe it, a time when you knew without a doubt you would win or achieve a desirable goal even though the odds were way against you. I'm talking absolute certainty, not, I have a good feeling where "this seems really likely to go my way", I mean, I know this is going to happen.

I've experienced it a few times:

1) a raffle I knew I would win, and actually hit twice
2) a call in to a radio show to win tickets
3) once when I threw a banana peel from a car moving 40mph into a sewer
4) a long time ago when I threw a basketball one handed from the bottom of the driveway into the basket.

You?

Nope. I've never had that feeling. I wish I've had, but I don't have that kind of luck.

I've had it a couple of times during stuff like raffles. The last time was at a raffle at my health club and the prizes were 6 weeks with a personal trainer or a $20 gift certificate to a surf shop. I knew I was going to win and that it would be the surf shop since I don't surf, and because I really wanted the training sessions. Sure enough.

It doesn't happen very often. When it does, I just know for certain that I'm going to win.

I've also had some weird deja vu instances where I'll be traveling to a town for the first time and feel like I've seen the scenery before.

Is this the same feeling you get when climbing the rope in gym class?

For me, once every 7 to 10 years. I get kind of exhilarated beforehand. I hope to get that feeling one of these days for the Dirt Rag bike raffles...that would be so cool. Deja vu? Weird. Never experienced that, really. Enjoyable? Disturbing? Comforting?

When I was a senior in high school I had an inning where I struck out the side on 9 pitches. 8 fastballs in a row and with an 0-2 count on the third batter I threw a big ol' overhand curve. I'm a righty, the batter was a righty and I started it out right at his ear. As soon as I released the ball I felt a twinge of pity for him. He ducked, and the ball broke down and hit the glove right down the middle.

I've never forgotten that feeling.

The deja vu is a little weird. I'll just look around and know that I've seen the place before. But I know it's not possible since I've never traveled there.

I bet you've had "that feeling" other times, and lost the contest, or missed the shot, or whatever, then promptly forgot about the feeling since there was no coincidence to reinforce it.

^ Nah. I would remember the profound sense of disappointment. i.e. "I really thought I was going to win/be victorious/etc." Not to mention the humilation when I called it. "i.e. I'm going to throw this banana peel into that sewer that's coming up, and it's going to go in."

yup

most memorable was throwing a paper ball over my shoulder into a trash can (can un-sighted and no practice shots) with an audience \o/

For some reason, even before I threw it, I knew I'd make it.

Yeah. Senior in high school, one of the last swim meets against our rivals. As a team, I knew we would lose, but I dominated every race I was in.

I get the feeling, but it's backwards from all you guys. I only get it when I know crappy things are gonna happen to me, like the time, sitting in the terminal, I knew I was going to end up sitting next to the fat hairy guy who was wearing a wife beater. That was a fun flight

That happened to us once, on a flight from hell to the wedding from hell (another story). Two crazy peeps yelling out in the terminal looking for the airport bar, getting tanked before boarding and then loading up on drinks in flight. What was great was when the guy exited the bathroom and the unmistakable stale stank of secondhand Pall Mall wafted through the cabin while his ol' lady rushed in....next thing you know two flight attendants had the door open, scolding her to put the butt out.....my vantage point afforded me a glimpse of a frayed denim skirt and black leather belt around her ankles....cuh-lass-ee!

When we landed all the passengers were cracking up as the attendants kept the two in their seats and some armed officers came on board to arrest them....
