Grilled Cheese

Discuss.

FightingPanther 10-04-08 04:27 PM

yes, preferably with tomato soup

Doohickie 10-04-08 04:28 PM

Yum.

AEO 10-04-08 04:30 PM

with the non-processed, sliced cheese it's great.
and chicken noodle soup with a side dish of vinaigrette bean salad

JoelS 10-04-08 04:32 PM

Cheddar and a good smoked ham melted on sourdough. Now that's good!

Grueyere, roast beef, thinly sliced onions on sourdough = grilled onion soup.

I love grillies with kraft slices! Crispy fried toasted crunchy bread filled with hot melty gooey cheese... *drool*.

Why am I having veggie stir fry for supper? Idiot!

ehidle 10-04-08 06:29 PM

Man I am actually thinking about running down to the convenience store to get some kraft singles right now...

I already had half a new york pizza tonight and almost an entire box of freihofers cookies...

I love this thread :D

Local Cheddar, local butter, & homemade wheat bread is best.

cyclokitty 10-04-08 07:20 PM

I know real cheddar cheese is delicious (I can go on and on about sharp crumbly cheddar, apple smoked cheddar etc etc) but I think the best cheese to go in a grilled cheese is the processed stuff. It melts evenly and the oil never separates.

I get kraft and black diamond, and sometimes velveeta. It depends on what's on sale. I prefer white store bought bread to whole wheat store bought bread, but homemade is a little to heavy. The processed cheese goes better with the spongy fluffy stuff, like Wonderbread.

Tomato soup, outta the can.

Ketchup on the side is fine. Sliced dill pickles divine. Forget Branston pickle, but pickled onions are tasty.

Butter is better by far than margarine.

artifice 10-04-08 07:36 PM

italian bread sliced thick. real butter outside of bread. real cheese on inside. squish inside a george foreman.

perfection.

Hickeydog 10-04-08 07:37 PM

In light of artifice's comment I must add that mine are done in a cast iron skillet.
(no offense to artifice)

No! Chocolate milk. Try it!

Joe Gardner 10-04-08 07:58 PM

Fresh bread from the bakery next door, provolone cheese from the Italian market on the corner, black forest ham, lots of butter.

Add tomato soup only if the temperature outside is colder then it is inside.

Yum.

Doohickie 10-04-08 08:08 PM

Forget the tomato soup, put a slice or two of tomato on the sandwich. Delicious!

I have done several winter camping trips where all of my food was made in a cast-iron mountain pie iron.

Egg/bacon sandwiches, Pizza sandwiches, Cheese sandwiches, Ruebens... but no dessert pies.

<drools>
